The answer above is way off. If you could burn 300 calories a mile, you'd be a rail. That means with 4 miles you would burn off your whole days diet. An average rider at average speed burns about 25 calories a mile. It goes up and down with conditions, fitness, and intensity. for a somewhat accurate measure you could buy a heart rate monitor which calculates calories burned by using your weight, distance, and heart rate.

I wear a heart rate monitor that has been programmed with my weight, age, and fitness profile. My monitor calculates my calories burned with about a 10 calorie degree of accuracy.
So, yes, it is possible.

That first response is way, way off. In any case, I like this calculator:
http://www.csgnetwork.com/caloriesactburned.html
It gives a rough calculation depending on your weight and speed. Obviously other issues will also have bearing on your calorie burn rate like terrain, wind resistance, etc. But it will get you in the ball park.
Hope this helps.

I would recommend using http://www.mapmyride.com which allows you to enter your route, the elapsed time and your stats (sex/weight/height etc) and estimates the calories burned. The mapping tool alone is really well done.

I LOVE this site. You put in your weight, how many minutes you exercised and it gives you an approximation of how many calories you burned.
It even breaks down the bicycling into different speeds!
