I cycle between 8-10 miles a day, 5 days a week. I was wondering if anyone knows roughly how many calories this would burn, or if there is a way to measure how many calories you burn cycling?

thanks :)

I'm going to buy a new bicycle helmet today, and there's one specific helmet I saw on the internet (the Giro Skyla) that I liked, but it's universal-fit, and I ride almost every day so I want it to be comfortable!

Obviously I'm gonna try the helmet on before I buy it, I'm just curious as to what you guys think about universal-fit helmets.

Well, i am not a bike enthusiast but i am interested in buying a bike. Use it often.I was inclined to buy a mountain bike with dual suspension.I have seen bikes at regular malls like Walmart. I am not able to decide on what kind to buy, a front suspension or dual suspension. I just want to ride it with comfort and a bit of speed perhaps!!
Kindly suggest.
Thank you.

I'm a teenager in high school, andI never learned to rider a bicycle. I just found out that, as part of my gym class, biking will be required to pass. I'm too embarrased to do anything drastic in public, and I feel that if I let my gym teacher in on my problem, he'll take the oppurtunity to embarrass me in front of the class (He's the type of person who would do that). Are there any ways I can learn to ride discreetly, to avoid embarrassment?

I am looking for in the price range 300-600 dollars. I would use it generally for city streets but would not like to be limited to this. Or should I just get a mountain bike because I might be riding trails?

I'm not really sure how much money my dad wants to spend on one. Probably no more than $50, but I'm not sure.

I tried on an adult helmet that we already had, (I'm guessing a men's one) but it was too big!

I think it'd be nice to get a helmet that has a little hole for a pony-tail, but it's not the end of the world if it doesn't have one.

I live in Omaha, NE, so we have quite a few bike shops, as well as a bunch of sporting goods stores.

I know we don't want to buy one off the internet. Should I go to a bike or sporting goods store, or just go to target or wal-mart?

Is there really a big difference between $25 helmets and $50 helmets?

OH and if an adult helmet was too big, should I get a youth size? Or a women's size? Or what?

I don't want it to be super ugly either. I'm a 16 year old girl so if it looks really ugly I probably won't have any motivation to wear it.
OH and I ride about 6 miles on a paved trail each time I ride, and I go about 4-5 days a week.

If joe rides south on his bike in a straight line for 15 min with an average speed of 12.5 km/h how far has he ridden?

is the answer 50km or -50km? Is it -50km because of joe going down south?

Surely somewhere makes and sells them less than the price of a new wheelset.

Would a deep section 32 hole rim be up to the task?

I know someone that will fit and true it for me.

I am looking for a certain type of bicycle. I see people riding them on the streets, but can't seem to find them online. This bicycle is where you basically sit back in a seat, and the pedals are basically in the front, and you stear with steering rods or something of that nature. Its on 2 wheels, not 3. If you know what type of bicycle this is, that would be awesome. Thanks!

1)training on a stationary exercise bike I have been getting sore knees. How can I fix this,is there techiques to help?
I've just begun and tonight did 45mins including approx 5mins slow warm up of 50 rpm, then i did 6 sets in the middle of workout of 6 x 2 min drills at 90-95rpm each time with 2-5min intervel rest periods.I have the level set at a moderate resistance.

question 2)I have done simular workouts on 2 different exercise machines. One York brand exercise bike says I burn't 3000 calories in approx 70mins with a workout as mentioned in question 1.And the second machine (both new machines)said I burn't 375 calories in 40 mins, and seemed even harder at times. So which machine sounds more accurate in your opinion please?

3)Any good websites/links you may know of for cycling tips etc

4)any good training dvds on cycling?possibly with Lance Armstrong as he seems to be the poster boy of the sport,or just any other good dvd title.

5)any good tips you may have on diet, training

I'm guessing it's just for style?... or maybe to hold together the housing of the wire going to the back of the bike. I don't know.

Hi,
I am getting completely confused with the sizing of the Giant bikes. I was measured up at a bike shop and I was told that I was a medium or medium-large for the 2007 Giant TCR C2 that is apparently 50-53.5 cm. However I have seen a 2006 Giant TCR 1 which is saying it is 55.5 which is apparenltmly medium. The guy 6 foot tall.

I am confused!

I am apparently around 179 cm tall.

Anyone got any suggestions as to what size bike I need?

I am about to purchase a Santa Cruz Nomad and was quoted $5,000 for the Free Ride build. I know that discounts on these bikes rarely happen, they just sell too well...

Either way, I am ok with the price and will likely buy it. Before I do, I just wanted to check here if anyone would share their view on this bike. Is it worth the money? Is it a poor purchase and if it is, what would be a better one?

In the last week I tried quite a few bikes:
Specialized SX trail
Santa Cruz VP Free
Norco Shore
Norco Six SE
Decinci something ... didn't quite like it, and a few others that just didn't do it for me.

I plan to ride some free ride (not hard core), some DH (also moderate) and quite a bit of trails like North Shore's finest hehe.. Looking for a versetile bike and Nomad seems to be just it.

Anways... post your opinions.

Thanks.

i know it sounds kind of crazy but i recently bought a next rampage bike from walmart for what i believe was $60 to the most but anyway this bike hasnt given me nothing but trouble i live in chicago so i usually go to uptown bikes. the first problem was that the chain kept popping so they did the usual pulled the wheel back and put some bolts on the chain to stop it from coming off.next it was another problem with the chain all of the sudden little parts of my of my chain was hanging off then i had to buy a whole nother chain for the bike.so the bike hasnt really given me that much trouble but it seems like when im riding and peddling it makes a loud sound. does anyone know if this is a serious problem or could lead to something or is it just me putting my weight on the bike im average size. please help..... advice i dont recommend anyone to buy bikes at walmart my opinion thanks lol 1

I have taken a lot of the good advice I have gotten from the cycling section here. I thought I wanted a hard tail mountain bike, but after doing a lot of test riding, I am leaning more towards getting a hybrid. I know I do not want a road bike. I want a bike I can ride on mainly pavement and some mild mannered dirt paths, mainly for exercise and enjoyment. How do the quality of the compenents compare on these bikes? From test riding, the 7.6 FX is definitely faster, but the Trek 7700 was more comfortable. Anyone have any experience with either of these bikes? I also read a lot about Cannondales and like their bikes. Is there a comparable Cannondale to the 7700 or 7.6 FX I should consider? Thanks much!
