Some bikes come with them standard others don't. Just bought a specialized hardrock sport and it didn't come with one but my other bike has one. Just a round bit of plastic that slides over the pedal and screws to the chainring. It stops trousers and jeans and anything else getting ripped to shreds. What are they called?

when I hit a pothole. The hole was so deep that the bike stopped dead and I carried on for another ten yards before I hit the deck. I have damaged my ankle and my left arm feels like it dosnt belong to me. I feel quite lucky to get off so lightly, but needless to say my bike is a write off. How do I complain to the proper people with a view to maybe getting my bike replaced. Someone told me to see a soliciter at the scene, any help please

then one in there currently is not the right one as I took it out to clean/regrease and all the cups & balls are loose, not in an actual bearing race.

I wonder if the chain designed for 9 speed cassette can also fit to the crank that they say is for 8 speed... I want to change my 8 speed cassette to 9 speed cassette, and also I will change my 8 speed designed chain to 9 speed designed chain, I will replace also my shifters to 9 speed..... But the thing is if I can leave my crankset as is???... because I bought a Specialized Hardrock comp with the 8 speed installed drivetrain, now I want to upgrade for 9 speed... Now is it possible to leave my crankset so that I can save money to buy the crankset.. because it is the one with higher value.. I hope you guys inderstand my question.. Thanks in advance...

i remember a time when pushbikes only had one gear. (no gear change) the first bike i got was three gears, a few years later i went up to a five speed racer. later, i converted it to a ten speed, and my old school friend had a fifteen speed touring bike. the bike i have now is eighteen speed and i understand you can get bikes with even more gears. so what`s the limit?

I was told to use a teflon-based aerosol regularly. I do this (it's some cerflon formula), but the chain is rusty (it's only two months old!). I commute a ton, so having a noisy chain is driving me crazy and worrying about the damage it is causing is making me worry too. What do I do?

I've heard that mostly dry climates can use the dry lube-it won't pick up as much dust. My climate is Indiana, likely to change every ten minutes. Do I stick with teflon based (which I picked up in the automotive section of Walmart) and just change my lubing routine or do I find something else?

I just got a sexy new full suspension mountain bike and during my weekly road rides, that is all I want to ride. My road bike simply holds no appeal for me right now.

I am sure that the honeymoon will eventually be over. However, will riding my new beauty on the road damage him in any way?

Hey guys. Just got my bike stolen. Nice ride, too. Now I'm a pedestrian again.
Now I'd like to believe it was stolen by another bike lover who'll enjoy it and all the additions I've put into it, but I know it's probably some low-life who'll sell it for $40 to buy some drugs.

Sorry if I sound bitter. Just bear with me. It's therapeutic. What should happen to these people in your opinion? Feel free to be graphic.

How much mileage do they put in on the road? Can you be a good track cyclist and just train on the track with only your track bike? I find riding for long periods on the road boring but I'm curious about what sprinting on the track would be like. I lift weights for my legs so I think I may have more power than a normal beginner. My endurance is really bad though.
