but continue to cycle? My sister told me that I'm hurting my knees because I'm putting too much weight/resistance on, but what's the point of cycling if I don't put enough resistance? Am I positioned incorrectly on my bike? Thanks in advance for your help- I need more aerobics in my routine.

My knees get sore when I don't get a good leg extension. My seat is raised higher than normally recommended to maximize leg extension. Experiment with your seat height till you find a comfortable position.

Also, work on turning full circles on the pedals. Use a fluid motion moving the pedals in a full circle instead of pushing down hard on the "down-stroke". Go to a website and read some information on style or technique.

I'm betting that raising your seat and improved pedaling style will reduce your knee pain.

lots of good answers already you need just slightly short of full extension on your legs and yes pedaling in a fluid motion all the way around also is a good idea and as mentioned gym equipments it built for the average man wish is 5' 10 not a woman get out of the gym and ride your own bike properly sized and set up for you tell the bike sales man what your needs are and I'm sure the pain in your keens will go away if u haven't done permanent damage to them lets hope not any way i cant stress enough when you are in your 20 you don't think about long turn damage to your body but you better or life's not going to be that much fun when you get older and don't hesitate to tell others what you have lured for this experience

Two things...first the bikes at gyms are notoriously poor in ergonomic design. They are often harmful to joints since they strive for a position that is too upright.

However I suspect the real problem is the resistance. Cycling is not about pushing the hardest load you can. That is what weight lifting and strength training is for. Cycling is about working out your cardio vascular system. What you are doing is actually counter productive and could be causing more harm than good.

I too have a knee damage it sucks. I might get it checked considering you will have tore whatever and it is going to ought to be in a brace for awhile. I might ice and raise above the center. Ice for 20 mins then off for 20 mins for an hour. You can do that as customarily as you favor. Ibruprofen is well for inflamtion , however I do not love to take that except it's absolutley fundamental. Hope you believe higher

Maybe like strech your legs out. Also, you could change the resistance every once in awhile. Like maybe start easy than hard and finish off your workout with a medium/moderate resistance level.

make sure you are propperly positioned on the bike. adjust the seat so that when you are seated your BARE heel touches the center of the pedal with your leg fully extended. this should help.

You want to cycle faster with less resistance. More cardio, less joint stress.
