Place a magnet on it, If it sticks it is a ferrous metal (steel alloy). If not it is aluminum alloy, unlikely to be carbon fiber.
Aluminum doesn't rust, it does corrode if unprotected with paint or anodizing. It turns to a gray powder.

If it's BMX, it's probably steel.

Get a magnet and try to stick it to a frame tube. Be careful not to scratch the finish....you can put a dishtowel over it before you test.

Another good way is to put an angle grinder on the metal. If it sparks, it's steel. hehehe :o)

Put a magnet on it. If it is a ferrous metal the magnet will stick, and the metal will rust. If the magnet falls off it is aluminum.

doesn't matter what kind of bike it is take a magnet to the frame and if it sticks then you know its steel. if it doesn't then you know its aluminum or you can leave it in the rain and see if it rusts
