I ride my bike for transportation, fitness, fun and to save money on gas. I ride to work 10 miles each way. There are a few hills, but for the most part it's pretty flat. It's all on road or sidewalk with minimal cracks or potholes. I also like to strap on "The Pod Racer" (our kid trailer) and take my kids for rides. Usually just for a few miles.

I currently ride a 21 speed Schwinn Mountain Bike that I bought at Wal-Mart for about $125. It’s served its purpose for about 2 years, but I’m thinking of getting something new. It's heavy and cumbersome. I only ever use maybe 1/3 of the gears (the faster/harder 1/3).

I don't want/need anything fancy or expensive. I don't care what brand it is. I don't particularly care if it has shocks or not. I just want something that will be durable, efficient and fun to ride.

Hi there,
I recently had my Giant Yukon stolen so I am in the market for a new bike.
I am looking at a womens bike called "Specialized Mika" - its their new womens bike.
just wondering peoples thoughts on Giant vs Specialized?
I basically will use the bike for a bit of cross country on tracks, and riding about town. Looking to spend about $700 and under and want a reputable brand.

There's actually two parts - At what age did you (or you can use your child's age) learn to ride a bicycle - and the other, - are you male or female?

Thanks for your time!

I have a Diamondback Outlook and was interested to know whether I could add pegs to the rear and if so how?
They won't be used for tricks or the likes, just to allow me to transport someone :)

Okay, I have a regular mtb frame that was design to be used with derailleurs and cassettes but I was wondering if I could switch it to a single speed in the back and front. Basically, i want to change from cassette to singlespeed and from a 3 ring crank to a single speed crank. Can it be done?

I was riding my bike yesterday and approached two separate runners who did not move from their left side of the road. Shouldn't everyone be on the right side and pass on the left. If you have a link to an etiquette page that discusses this topic, please include in your response. Thanks!

When I had my bike locked up,it was locked up to a light pole on the street, just outside of my work.We do have a bike rack that I could use,but the managers want the shopping carts to be along the front of the store where I work, and when we do that,I can't use the bike rack without a lot of trouble with the shopping carts.I don't like to use the breakroom,in the store, becauseit is a breakroom,ti has alot of tables and chairs that I would have to fit my bike around, they don't always close the door to the breakroom like should when they leave it.I have decided that I'm going to be walking to work from now on,instead of saving up for another bike. Its only about a mile to work.any suggestions about what to do next,to either get another new bike,or to walk to work?

I just ordered a new bike, and will be using the new style shimano crank/BB. I was wondering if anyone here has used this style crank, and what they thought of it. I sure hope it's better than ISIS. I had to go back to square taper on my fixed gear because the frickin' non-drive side crank kept coming loose. UGGHH!

Hi, I have bought a bike to start saving money around town. I used to depend on my car, but thought I needed to save money a bit so I want to start cycling into town instead. The trouble is, I haven't had any decent excercise for over four years. I am unfit. I am 18, 5ft4 and weigh 9stone; but when I've been out cycling yesterday and today, i could only go for about 20 mins. But this doesn't get me anywhere near to reaching college in Sept which is quite a distance away.

I have NEVER cycled before yesterday, but I am wondering what I can do to increase my stamina and energy and stuff. I don't hit a great deal of speed cos my legs ache. I'm sure you get the idea... i'm just unfit!

Anyone who is experianced in this stuff please give me sensible advice. I don't want answers that say "your fat" "your just lazy" etc, because your just wasting my time then. I want proper advice from people who know what they are talking about. :) thank you.

Licence bikes; so they can`t just hit and run (or bike off).

Looking for your opinions here....

Do you find it harder to climb a hill when: pedaling standing on your pedals, or pedaling while seated in the seat?

Why?

Alright, I've decided that I'm going to get a new bike. I've found that I love biking, and want to get something decent. I bike both on road, and off road (usually on road, but I love off roading) Problem is: money. Being young, I can't afford thousands of dollars worth of gear. What do you think of this plan; would it work?

I buy a nice mountain bike. Drop a couple thousand on a decent mountain bike. Now, I'd also like to get a set of racing slicks (drop another few hundred) that I can easily install in my bike - just swap out the off-roading tires, and throw in the slicks.

I don't know much about bikes, so would this work? Can I get racing slicks with disc brakes (for easier/faster swap out)? I understand I'll need rims + rubber + tube + sprocket, but can it be done? Two completely diff. sets of tires, one frame? Would it be worth it?

Thanks for your input!
