What are good brands for Cycling shoes?

I need to buy cycling shoes so what are the good brands out there, where can you buy them?

There are alot of good brands out there. Carnac and Sidi are probably the two highest quality and will be some of the most expensive.

Shimano makes a nice shoe as does Pearl Izumi. Performance has two house brands Forte and Cat1. Both are nice.

Most brands have websites that will list local dealers.

Specialized work the best for me. I tried on at least 5 other brands, and specialized were the only ones that fit the shape of my foot without being too long. If you find a different brand that suits you, go with them.

If you are buying cycling shoes, you are likely going to buy clipless pedals and cleats. If you are, then you need to consider whether the cleats will fit on the shoes. Mountain bike / commuting cleats usually use 2 screws; road bike cleats use 3 screws.

Depending on what type of riding you will do should determine which type of cleats and pedals to purchase. I prefer commuter type shoes because I end up walking quite a bit (in stores and such, I'm a transportation / utilitarian cyclist) - and having rubber soles helps walking on concrete.

Mountain bike and commuter cleats are usually interchangeable -- if you are looking for long rides then road bike pedals, cleats, and shoes will likely work better -- the greater surface for the road style provides a larger area to extend power through, and improves comfort.

Also, I recommend buying shoes from a local dealer, and have them fit the cleats the first time. Knee surgery is not worth saving money on shoes.

SIDI is the cadilac if you are looking for the best. I have used many brands as they tend to come and go over the years. look, dueggi, detto are all some that were big years ago but you dont see now. right now i am riding in a pair of Lakes that i like a lot. When i was sponsored i used SIDI because they were one of our sponsors. i liked them a lot, but they are expensive so when i'm paying the bill they are too much.

as someone else said, it isnt the brand, it is the fit. in my experience, buy them big to begin with. as you sweat in them and get caught in the rain they tend to shrink. also i like straight lasted shoes, meaning they were built on a straight mold versus a curved one. the difference being your foot's natural shape. you want a shoe built on a curved last if you have a curve to your foot shape.

I will simply give you my personal experience.

My sidi shoes have been flawless. Easy to mount the hardware, durable, and I'm even pleased with the color and look. 10 out of 10.

I bought mine from my local bike shop. I would do the same if I were you. Sizing can be a bit iffy, particularly with respect to width. I would not send you to an internet retailer without trying them on first. Every foot is different.

Depends what you want to do with your shoes. Shimano are the brand leaders. My shoes are Lake. Not bad for the money. As well as the other brands listed, some of the Motorcyle clothing manufacturers are starting to make an entrance, as I have seen Diadora listed. The spec on these shoes is not bad and they are a reputable make. They are cheep too.

Aldi sell shoes, but these have mixed reviews, including the sole separating from the uppers.

However, primarily, you want a firm/stiff sole that will not flex, thereby bleading power from your stroke. As well as fit, look for things like breathability vs waterproofing. If mountain bike shoes, walk around in them in the shop, since you may have to leap over styles/gates etc. in them (Or push them up hills if feeling woosey).

Generally, I would not stick to one brand, but I would use Shimano as the bench mark.

I feel the brand isn't as important as the fit for you. Certain makers tend to make shoes narrow or wider with a little different shape. Most all offer low end to high end shoes with different retaining systems. The best shoe for one person will not always be the best for another.

Go with shimano. they are by far the best in the business. Whilethey may not be the most exotic shoes on the market, you definitly get what you pay for. and for cycling shoes, they are priced fairly.
You can order them form various places on the internet, however it would be better to go to a local bicycle shop for several reasons.
1.You will not have to guess what size to buy cause you will be ale to try them on
2. You can get suggestions and help from the employs that will help you choose the right shoe for you.
3. Shimano is the standard in the market, and is compatitble with many types of pedals, althoug, one could argue htat shimano pedlas are alos the best :D
And 4. you will be supporting you local bike shop. which is greatly appreicated by those of us in the business.
