just wanted to hear some opinions about that. mine is that first of all they earned their high payroll by their success. secondly, there are plenty of teams in sports with very high payrolls but they don't have success. examples (knicks, mets(have highs and lows), red sox, 80 something yrs without a championship, celtics(recently no success), nuggets (third highest payroll in nba and haven't been deep in the playoffs for a while). i just think that they're success comes with a successful system and style that has worked for years, not their high payroll.

He averaged only 4.9 runs created per game, very average. He always struck me as overrated, looking at his batting average and OBP. Any comments or debate?

There are so many people who feel the need to attack many of us who clearly come in here just to talk baseball. But for some, that's just an excuse to take personal shots at us because we root for the Yankee or some other team. I never thought it would be necessary to block people but it has become a defense mechanism just to keep the wackos off my back. How many of you have to deal with this same problem?

what was the most boring world series of all time in your opinion? the 04' series was pretty pathetic, but i would have to go with this years 2007 world series. as a lifelong rockies fan (only 19 though), it's getting really old how the red sox jump 20 runs before the 4th inning even starts. aghhhh

I cannot stand how American media butchers Daisuke Matsuzaka's name. Everything is Dice-K, D-Mat.
I'm not even Japanese but it really annoys me how we don't take the time to pronounce his name properly.
I remember when he came they first pronounced it Die-soo-kay; the next day they're saying Dice-K

For anyone who actually knows, in Japanese how would you phonetically or shorthand sound it out?
Because from linguistics, I know Japanese is a language that pretty much has words CVCVCVCV. that's consonant vowel consanant vowel sounds.

thanks for any (helpful and relevant) comments.

I'm not talking about broadcasters or reporters unless they do that too kinda like Peter Gammons. I'm specifically talking about whose columns do you enjoy or what author you like to read.

World champions in almost any other sport actually means champions of the world--competing against the worlds nations, and not just state to state in one country. Who came up with the title of "World series"?

Please justify your choice of yes or no. I say yes, big years, good numbers even away from Coors, doesn't seem to have used steroids, great hitter, good defense, MVP.

Do you agree with this statement?:
A true sports fan sticks with their team through the ups and the downs; the losses and the wins. They root for them no matter what. Even when they are doing badly, terribly, horribly; even if they lose a game by 50 points, 20 runs, 10 goals- they will stick with their team. They respect other teams and other true fans even if they are their rivals because every team, every true fan has great aspects. Those who put people down because of the logo they wear on their hat, the colors they show on their shirt are NOT true sports fans.

I just made this today and I put it on my AIM profile. I know there may be some grammatical errors. Sorry about that. I was just wondering if you agree with that, and I know that it's been asked before, but:

What is a true baseball/sports fan to you?

Why do all the analysts say the A-Rod has the AL MVP unaminously but the NL MVP is tight? The AL could either be A-Rod, Mike Lowell, David Ortiz, Vladimir Guerrero..by no means does A-Rod going to win by a wide majority. But for the NL omfg, Matt Holliday better fricken win it unanimously. Jimmy Rollins SHOULD HAVE NO shot at winning. 32 HRs...less than 100 RBI, less than .300 batting average. No! Ryan Howard has a BA of .264!!!!! It's not question. AL should be tight, NL should be no question

i used to pitch the "Tim Linncecum" way where I would push off really hard off the the mound, but that always made me slip and throw the ball weird. I'm now going to try to throw the "Michael Main" way where I still push off but not as far. Do you think this is smart? Or should I keep practicing the Tim Linncecum way.
