'03 Marlins, '01 Diamondbacks, '05 Angels???
01 D'Backs had Schilling/Johnson/Grace/Matt Williams/Finley/Gonzo/Reggie Sanders (81million payroll)
03 Marlins had Beckett/Burnett/Penny/D-Train/Pudge/A.Gonzalez/Derrek Lee/Mike Lowell/M.Cabrera/Juan Pierre/J.Conine.
05 Angels didn't make the world series.
This millenium, every roster has had bling. The last one to feature almost nobody was the 1997 Marlins. Kevin Brown was their ace.Their #2 was Alex Fernandez who went 17-12 but only pitched 32 more games in the majors. He didn't even pitch in 1998! They had an aging Bobby Bonilla and a bunch of journeyman infielders, Moises Alou & Gary Sheffield (who only hit .254 and was injured most of the year).

Interesting question because 1.) Which millennium HASN'T had a roster not full of stars? and 2.) Even if a team gets in without really well known names, once the team wins, at least a few of them become stars. 1969 Mets come to mind.

The Cincinnati Reds in 1990 were not seen *** stars especially when the Series came about and they were up against the heavily favored and star laden Oakland Athletics. The Reds won in a sweep.
