Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, who was inducted into the writers wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame this past summer, along with Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripkin.

Going to stay local. Bruce Jenkins and the three-dot lounge in the San Francisco Chronicle on Saturdays in a must read. Also, John Shea "On Baseball" in the Chronicle is great.
