There are so many people who feel the need to attack many of us who clearly come in here just to talk baseball. But for some, that's just an excuse to take personal shots at us because we root for the Yankee or some other team. I never thought it would be necessary to block people but it has become a defense mechanism just to keep the wackos off my back. How many of you have to deal with this same problem?

I am with you 100% and I am a Red Sox fan (been that way as long as I can remember - I even met Jim Rice and got him to sign a picture when I was 6 or 7 back in 79). I actually like Jeter and Torre. Can I legally say that being a lifelong Boston fan?
People have taken rivalries to an extreme. I am a Sox fan and my inlaws are Yankees fans. I can speak to them about baseball intelligently and not have to throw fists. I find that that is not the norm anymore, it is the exception.
People think that because there is a rivalry between the two teams that they need to fight about it. Look at that guy that sells chowder at Yankee Stadium. I respect that he supports his team, but that is an extreme. I then get mad because he is taunted, robbed, and assaulted by some idiots who claim to be Yankee fans because they wear the jerseys and hats. They are not baseball fans IMO. Those are the people that think Yankees/Red Sox suck chants are clever. They are people looking for a fight. The guy selling the chowder is not unlike them though. He knows that people are like that and he knows what will happen. Baseball fans have seemed to get stupider as time goes on. Look at the signs at the WS game 3. One sign, funny but stupid was "Big Poppy eats Big Boogers."
This is not just baseball though. This happens in football as well. No one can intelligently dismiss the Pats, but the argument is still - they are cheaters. Pats fans get ticked and the fight ensues. I personally have no time to talk to these people anymore. It's just a waste of time for me and anyone else involved.

Well I don't follow baseball but just because you talk about the Yankees I think you are OK! I am a NYer living in Florida. I have been on Y/A since May. I think I have seen it all. This is not a chat line but it is nonetheless a fun place to discuss various topics. I wish it were easier for you, I don't have any suggestions but to offer my sleeve so to speak. I spend a lot of time in the religious section and don't really give much attention to sports. I find that there are an aweful lot of people who like to take pot shots at us too. The Atheists vs the Christian. So why must we compete? Why can't we just have fun. Nature of the beast I suppose!

Best wishes dude! Go Yankees!!!

there are wackos and bullies every where ~ just about every forum I have been to. Some have identity crisis and think that they are the item being reviewed or ask about. It's odd that some people go to a review or ask forum to attack others but they don't want to hear any body else's opinion but their own. Then they get all bent out of shape and attack other people. Not very intelligent. Sorry you had such a bad experience here. Just ignore them. They have personal issues and it probably has nothing to do with you.

If you think its bad here you should see MLB.com message boards. I have been a Yankee fan all of my life. The rivalries with other teams are what makes it fun to follow sports. The hate does get out of hand. Like I would never say I want to see the Red Sox plane go down. But I have seen simillar posts about the Yanks.

Ignore the hate and enjoy the game.

My friend, you are so right. I too am beginning the blocking process for I am finding that many of them, at times, are missing from their lives the meds they need to control themselves. Yes I could easily come here string an answer together with nothing more then slurs and curses, but I believe that I have evolved beyond that. I know that evolution doesn't work in this fashion, but I believe that many are simply a regression to the species, an anomoly in nature. Sad.

Igonorance is bliss so they say............I guess that makes these "attackers" very blissful..........Maybe they don't have anyone to discuss or debate sports with because they have no friends and no lives if they come on a site like this or any other for that sole purpose and I'm sure a lot of them do........I only blocked one person who I never even posted to but he had me blocked so I returned the favor...........Reading what these "attackers" write is always good for a laugh for me.......I have to laugh at such stupidity and that's just what it amounts to..............A long time ago, when something unsavory is said, I learned this..........Rather than take heart at what's being said, look at the source...........Goes right back to ignorance is bliss............CAT

Don't take it so personal man. Its sports talk.

I grew up in R.I. the moved to CT. It was like culture shock. I grew up having Red Sox, Pats, Bruins, Celtics drilled into my head. Then I moved to CT and they are all Yankee fans (for the most part) and I used to get roasted by Yankee fans. But all in all its just fun to "bust eachother's balls".

You have to learn to take your lumps when your teams are down or blow opportunities. Its just nice to be a New England sports fans now-a-days as everything is going our way. I have moved back to R.I. since graduating college and its nice not to be around so many Yankee/Jets fans anymore! LOL.

Later.

I guess most of them don't have the decency and respect that we grew up with, or the family values that we hold dear. Those of us that grew up in the Midwest would be appalled by some of the things that go on here. I know my mother would have a cow, God rest her soul! Granted people in other regions were brought up differently, but I'm left shaking my head day in and day out and have to wash my hands frequently after visiting this site.

Don't let it bother you. They're probably all 12 year old kids who get bullied at school. By bullying others over the internet they get back a little of their self esteem. Just let them spew their nonsense but don't respond. I actually feel sorry for people like that. Poor kids.
