Baseball - September 2007

[Selected]: All categories Sports Baseball

theres a good chance the jays will make 500 overall, and maybe even a better chance they will make over 500 at home.
the jays look pretty good for the making of a world serries contender. maybe one or two top players in pitiching and hitting, the hitter also being able to steal bases.

About 15-20 people in my office have been watching how the Playoff will end up. It has become a matter of honor among us. Anyway, we have been trying to figure out who will be playing whom in the first round of playoffs.

We know that in the Division Series, the wild card team plays the team with the best record. However, an MLB rule states that teams from the same division are not allowed to face each other in the Division Series. At this point in the AL, Boston is the 1st place team and New York is the wild card team (both in the East Division). Therefore, NY should the play the 2nd place team. The problem is that the LA Angels and the Cleveland Indians have been flipping back and forth as to who is in the second spot for a while. Also, since the 13th of September, they have had the same win/loss record.

If the season ends with LAA and CLE with the same win/loss record, who will play the NY in the first round (assuming no changes).

The Detroit Tigers are now only 2.5 games out of the wild card spot. A lot of AL Central fans despise the Tigers, but I am pretty sure all AL fans despise the Yankees even more. So the question is, would you rather see the Tigers overcome the Yankees to win the Wild Card? Do you think the Tigers can win the Wild Card? And who is the bigger fan, Tigers or Yankees? Should get some interesting answers here.

When he was with the Phillies, GM Lee Thomas said, "One day out of five, he's a horse; the other four, he's a horse's @$$." And that was before the whole country knew. And he's already talking about getting out of that little green pinball machine known as Fenway Park. Even people who aren't Yankee Fans have to like that Schilling got taken downtown like the inbound Green Line last night.

I'm trying to compile a list. So far I've come up with bomb, blast, round trip, and shot.

I had no idea how to word my question, sorry if it seems awkward.

Going to the Yankee game tomorrow, but the person I'm going with has the tickets and he's not getting there for about an hour and a half after me. Grrr.

I don't mind hanging out in bars alone, I just don't know the bars around the Stadium. Can anybody recommend any?

THANKS!

So, most now the ball sold for $752,000. The buyer, Mark Echo a designer, wants us to decide what he is going to do with it.

Vote here and then hop on over to http://www.vote756.com and vote for real.

Here are our choices for what to do with the ball:

1. Bestow it, give it to Cooperstown

2. Brand it, with an asterisk then give it to Cooperstown

3. Banish it, he will launch it into space.

Go vote and let us know what you voted!

Your thoughts?

It seems to me that you can lose half of your games and still be considered dangerous. Barely any teams have a dominant winning record and lose 80 games to their 90 wins. How is losing 80 games impressive? I don't see the athleticism in baseball that I see in football and soccer. I do know the mental aspect in baseball which is very important in a win. I have been watching since I was 5 when my favorite pitcher Ben McDonald was playing. I just watch football and see such an exciting game. Has baseball lost it's flare?

Yankees-Red Sox?
Dodgers-Giants?
Cubs-Cardinals?
Other?

and explain why

For me, it's Dodgers-Giants. Those two teams really hate each other and that rivalry has got to be the oldest in baseball (span of over 3 different centuries!). Of course it's not what it used to be today, but it's still good. The last series, the giants won off of 2 late game HRs. It seems to me that the giants really only care bout beating the dodgers and/or making sure they don't make the playoffs now that they're kinda out of contention.

Yeah I got Victor Martinez's home run shot, The Indians still lost, but I got a nice souvenir for my wife. Has anyone else ever caught a home run ball? The Indians sent down a guy from the team shop to give me a certificate of authenticity.

If the Yankees and the Red Sox end up tied for first in the AL East, the Yankees would finish first in the AL EAST because they beat Boston in the season series correct? Or has this been changed and they will play a tie-breaker game to determine who holds first place for the AL EAST?

A good job by both teams. A very good game that came down to the wire. Having said that congrats to the Yanks for winning 2 out of 3.

I am a Red Sox fan but there is nobody in the world that looks more gay than Jason Varitek. He acts gay and swings gay too. But does he swing both ways?

Is he gay like Jeter and Gay-Rod?

Make it go boom, enslave all of the fans.

And when I say Red Sox and Yankees, I mean the players, staffs, not fans.

Jimmy Rollins too. A great feat like everyone is acting??? Look at this:
"Granderson"(DET)- 36(d)_22(t)_22(HR)_23(sb)_ 72rbi-136SO
"Jimmy Rollins"(PHI)- 36(d)_18(t)_27(HR)_36(sb)_ 85rbi-only 76SO
2 more triples and Rollins has an even more impressive season with more rbi's and about half as many strikeouts. I think he is one of the most under-rated players in baseball even though everyone knows he's good. Really, I was just wondering how rare it really was to get 20 of each of them stats in a single season???? anyone know???? Another Q: Why can't the Mets beat the Phillies? Imagine if the Phils wind up making the playoffs.
