Hello, just so you know I'm an Atheist, and for those who don't know that means i don't believe in a God. I go to a public school obviously funded by tax money. I am a Junior in High School.

Our team shirts have verses from the bible and every practice / meet or even tournaments he has us hold hands and pray.

I don't want to confront him about anything because he is around 60 years old and drives three hours to the school for work every morning, meaning he is up at three. I have a lot of respect for him and don't want to hurt his feelings.

This was never a problem for me until today when he had us watch clips of the passion (movie with Mel Gibson) which made me late for a group project.

I need your advice on what to do. Religion is not allowed to be funded through tax money or to be practiced in groups on school hours. I don't want to tell the principal and be hated by the team :[

I would like to know why every one talks about prayer in school. I am 44 years old and do not remember a time when there was prayer in school.

I need to find a good passage to read in a short service this weekend. I would like something that relates to confidence, peace, or wisdom/knowledge. Something uplifting, and less than about 10 verses. I know it's a lot to ask, but any thoughts?

I'm an atheist and I've heard from various people who didn't know where I stand that "atheists are immoral" and "atheists are amoral."

My question is this: How do you view yourself vis-a-vis religious people (regardless of their faith) when it comes to morality?

Have you encountered the same kinds of stereotypical arguments and if so, how do you deal with them?

Does it make you angry or are you okay ignoring them? Do you argue and/or challenge the statements?

I've recently heard that there are about 15 groups of people that Christians should pray for according to the Bible. I'd like to know who they are. I know we should pray for our Pastor, political leaders, policemen, laborers, enemies etc.
Please include scripture references also please. Thank you.

I have a big issue I am searching for an answer about, and I feel led to fast and pray tomorrow. I have never fasted before and I was wondering if anyone could help me understand the proper way to do so. I have heard there are various levels of fasting, looking forward to the answers.

I genuinely do...I'll tell you why...people have always had religions..different religions..over the millenia..and they believed in their God and their rituals..
It just strikes me that a whole lot of people are spending a lot of effort on rituals...and we all cant be right...the seik not cutting their hair ...and the muslim praying 5 times a day..and the jew being circumcised..the catholic not using contraception..etc etc..you get my point..
religion just seems to fill a social need...I'm not talking about God here guys...just religion..if you can seperate the two in your mind?

. . . your personal moral code is at least loosely based on a theocratic code of some kind, whether Judeo-Christian or not? Whether intentionally or not?

Just curious, not picking a fight.

Thanks all!

When someone asks something like: Jewish people what is the significance of the menorah.
A Christian might answer It is pointless because Jesus came and there is no reason to celibrate Hannaka.

Or another example: Christians what is the proof you use to say that Jesus actually came and died and rose again?

A Christian might answer: Because the bible says it is true. You should belive the bible because if you don't you will burn in hell.

Neither of these make since.
Will the kind of people who answer questions like the 1st one only answer questions like the second one, and please not answer like the person in the second one did?

Just Wondering.
