I genuinely do...I'll tell you why...people have always had religions..different religions..over the millenia..and they believed in their God and their rituals..
It just strikes me that a whole lot of people are spending a lot of effort on rituals...and we all cant be right...the seik not cutting their hair ...and the muslim praying 5 times a day..and the jew being circumcised..the catholic not using contraception..etc etc..you get my point..
religion just seems to fill a social need...I'm not talking about God here guys...just religion..if you can seperate the two in your mind?

I pray and believe in the power of good and that the opposite exists...
my question is only about all the different rules people follow with the different religions and we seem to have been doing this throughout time..

You're right, sweet girl, much of religion is manufactured by humans. Some seem to think that by ritual and rites, they can grow closer to God. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.

Jesus wants a real relationship with us and that isn't religion.

Great question! God bless!

the greeks honestly believed in all their gods for several thousand years - but these days nobody worships them.
and the egyptians were certain enough to build the pyramids - again most people nowadays could not name more than two or three egyptian deities.

and isn't everyone you know an atheist?

when people have a headache, do they say a prayer or do they take a nurofen?

when a married couple want to have a child, do they sacrifice a goat or do they keep temperature charts and have sex at the correct time of the month?

when someone goes on a foreign holiday, do they buy a phrasebook or do they pray to the paraclete?

The examples you give are of man-made rules. None of the things you mentioned can be found in the Bible. (other than circumcision) I put my trust and faith in God. He's not made up, whereas many of the "rules" some religions tout are. Sometimes religion does fill a social need, but there's much more to it than that. Spiritual emptiness is something only God can fill.

I don't doubt your sincerity, but my prayer is that you will be open to exploring a new path—a path that will truly lead you to God.

You see, God is too great and too vast to be limited to our own opinions, religions or souls. God is the Creator of the whole universe, and He is so great that He brought it into existence from nothing. He also is your Creator. You aren't here by chance—He put you here. And He put you here so you could know Him and serve Him.

The Bible says, "Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom" (Psalm 145:3). Once you understand how great God is, you will never be content to dismiss Him.

All of religion is just winging it. Say whatever and see what happens. If the guys who wrote those books could see all the dupes now, they'd probably be pissing themselves, of course they're all dead though.

I totally agree with Faceless. It is not about religion. It is about a relationship with Christ, and how He can change your life.
