Im with you brother. Lay not up treasures on earth, but in heaven where moth and rust do not currupt...
1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

You have made some good points. Let me elaborate on your thinking.
God requires us to pay our Tithes. That is 10% of our `gross income`` not what you take home. This requirement was for the `Christian` which is à follower of Christ` You can tell those who really want to serve and live with God in the last days from those who are only pretending. HOW - well listen to them, watch their quality of giving, and watch their life style. All these things will dictate where the so called `Christian`is headed. NO this is not judging. It is applying the Word of God to the lives of your friends. God never accused anyone for being sceptical about their Godly living; but everyone will be before Him to Answer. You see: I have strayed from the issue as it is a broad subject.
If all you have is 2 bucks and you give with the right heart - God will bless you for giving. IF you have millions in your account and only put 2 bucks in the offering; then God is probably going to hold you accordingly.

Your question is valid, the real problem is most Christians are biblically ignorant and do not understanding tithing. They have never been taught correctly and all they know is that God loves a cheerful giver. I also am a sold out tither. I also realize that offering is over and above tithing. God Bless

We should tithe as much as we are able to. And its not your place to judge how much someone gives.
Personally, my husband and I choose to give to charity organizations, instead of only tithing through our church ... but that's a personal decision.
Sweetheart, I'm not the one addressing those who only drop a dollar or two in the plate -- YOU ARE. So if anyone is riding around on a high horse, its not me.

Unfortunately, money and sex are two topics that God wants to bless us with, but too many pastors have bought into the idea that they should not "offend" anyone by telling them how God wants us to live.
Pastors, PLEASE TELL YOUR FLOCKS THE TRUTH! God wants blessings for us, and will bless every aspect of our lives that we give over to Him. That includes money and sex.

Let not your left hand know what your right hand does.
That is in reference to tithing.
That's why I use an envelope.

Its not the amount you give, but where your heart is at in giving it. Re: The Widows Mite.
We are also obligated to take care of our own households first, gifts are to come from your abundance.
