I would like to know why every one talks about prayer in school. I am 44 years old and do not remember a time when there was prayer in school.

If anyone did have prayer in school, what was the prayer?

Matt 6:5 "Also, when you pray, you must not be as the hypocrites; because they like to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the broad ways TO BE VISIBLE TO MEN. Truly I say to you, They are having their reward in full. You, however, when you pray, GO INTO YOUR PRIVATE ROOM and, after shutting your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; then your Father who looks on in secret will repay you."

Also, prayer in school isn't going to help if children are not taught Bible based morals at home.

The fuss is for the following reason...

We live in secular nation. Religions do not pay taxes, and therefore have no say in how tax dollars are spent. Public schools are funded by tax dollars, therefore religions don't get to influence ANY aspect of public education. If they do, it means they are getting a free lunch, and there's no free lunch.

Sad when a Government censors Prayer, thoughts and the like. There was another man(Hitler) in the late thirties and early fourties who did the same thing to his Country. Could we get to the point in this Country where our air is taxed and wars are fought over drinking water? To answer your question --- Freedoms are precious, and when taken away, they become hard to get back. This Country was founded on Prayer and the free excercise of Religion. Don't ever stand for it to be taken away. Seperation of Church and State is a farse placated by the atheist. The Costitution says simply that this Country cannot have a State or Government Religion as England did when our founders fled from there because of it.

The fuss???
That's why this world is in such chaos because we do not pray. If we were praying and obeying God's laws more we would not have so much evil, hatred and wicked ways in us.

James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

People like to project their beliefs.

I'm 52 and remember when we did. It had no effect at all on behavior. Bad kids were still bad, good still good.

It's unconstitutional for a school to favor any religion, which is why the very conservative Supreme Court of 1963 ruled against prayer in schools in the Abington vs. Schempp case.

People pushing prayer think it will take us back to a time that never was, because the reality is segregation was still ongoing, McCarthyism forced more religion into our lives and the KKK was not even bothered to be investigated by the FBI.

I'm 36, and other than the pledge of allegiance which stated "one nation under God", I don't remember any prayer in my public schools.

I don't understand all the fuss either - there is plenty of time outside of school hours for prayer.

Considering some of the atrocious spelling and grammar I've seen in this forum alone - our main concern should be focused on education in schools - not prayer.

The Fundamental Evangelicals want prayers at school.

Prayers should be at church. Prayers at school will disregard the faith of others which is wrong.

The whole concept of it is totally wrong. It singles out a particular belief.

I'm older than you and I didn't have any prayer in school either. I think it depends on where you live. If you are from some hick little town they had prayer sometime in the recent past.

Really, especially when Jesus commands them to pray in private and not in public like the hypocrites do.
