Therefore, if I confess my sins to another Christian why would this be seen as less significant than if I were to confess them to a Catholic priest?

And why would a Catholic priest (assumingly) feel as though confessing his sins to a member of the congregation would not be sufficient? Is there Biblical precedent for this?

Thanks!

I mean if you know there's a "better place" and that you will see them again then why do you cry and get all sad? It doesn't make sense to me!

Am a Jehova witness, but I have always have a tendency to question things and open to any other knowledge(was told this is healthy).
At the bottom of my heart, I was never comfortably reconciled to the justifications for Jesus being son of god (incarnation and stuff) as they transcend the human common sense and sound more mythical. Should we just accept it as truth though it sounds more of a myth.
Cant we either be all sons of god or no one is (as in Evan Almighty movie) ?
Are there any other justifications out there that are not mythical ?

Please I want justifications, explanation not just one line proposal or degrading statements.

First I want to state for the record I fundamentally do not believe that America is a Christian nation, but I wish to ask a question of those who do.

As a Christian nation does that mean that those who are not Christian: Atheists, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Pagans, etc.
Are somehow less American than those who are Christian?

I know that Fundamentalists do not like to be bothered with actual "facts", but every once in a while I have to throw a few out there when I see posts full of errors.

Here is what the church teaches regarding grace, justification, and works:

CCC 1996: "Our justification comes from the grace of God. Grace is favor, the free and undeserved help that God gives us..."

CCC 2010: "Since the initiative belongs to God in the order of grace, no one can merit the initial grace of forgiveness and justification..."

CCC 1992: "Justification has been merited for us by the Passion of Christ who offered himself on the cross as a living victim, holy and pleasing to God, and whose blood has become the instrument of atonement for the sins of all men."

How come when people say "i'm an atheist i don't believe in God. They always try to disclaim God and jesus, but they never try to say I don't believe in the devil or satan because that stupid or whatever reason they have for not believing. Why do atheist always say no god but never no devil. Coincedence?

You all agree that God gave Jews Holy scripture in the form of His perfect word, and in his perfect word he gave them specific details about what a messiah was, and what THE Messiah was supposed to do. So why is it that when Jews say Jesus didn't fullfill the prophecies God gave to them about THE Messiah, you all say they don't know what they're talking about?

Weren't they the ONLY ones who accepted God's Torah? Weren't they the only ones who had to live by it? Aren't they the only ones who wrote anything at all in the Tanakh? Didn't God give it to them, as opposed to the Greeks and Romans that spread Christianity?

This link shows what God told Jews about THE Messiah: http://www.messiahtruth.com/details.html
To deny that these prophecies are the real ones, as opposed to these: http://www.messiahtruth.com/psalms.html for example, which are simply misquotations and outright deception, is essentially to call God a liar. Are you sure you aren't being misled?

I am studying the Bible, seeking and praying a lot. I have some friends who are Jehovah's Witnesses, and of course are totally open to me asking them questions along my search. My background is pretty ecumenical, I am kind of crunchy granola in my viewpoints. I really love the teachings of Jesus and i am following the way as much as I can. I am open to learning, but would it be a mistake to ask my JW friends?

Catholic doctrine teaches that when the pope speaks a word concerning the church or things pertaining to God that you must take that as Christ speaking to you, his word is the infallible word of God.

My question is, why do Catholics still believe this? You can look back to the days of the inquistions and say, "that was a sorry time in our history," yet Pope Paul lll ordered them. It is very obvious to us now that the torturing and murdering of innocent people that didn't agree with the Catholic Church was not of God, so there is an example of the pope's word not being from God. And this is just one example. So my question to you is, how can you today believe that each pope automatically receives the infallible word of God when He speaks to his church.

This is not meant to bash Catholics. Please don't be offended. Anyone with a truly thought out answer won't insult me for asking. If you do, I'll take that to mean you can't think of a real answer.
