Can't they recognize a joke when they see one? Why insult the asker in such crude manner? Lighten up!

Perhaps it's because some people think that they are so self righteous that they can go around judging others. Or they are sitting on their brains way too much for them to comprehend when somebody is joking around.

Frankly, I thought the Pastafarian questions were funny, except those who deliberately mentioned Christ. As a Christian, I think we should be able to laugh at weird things and sometimes (gasp) at ourselves. Our belief in God doesn't deprive us of a sense of humor, we do that to ourselves. And since I believe He created us with a sense of humor (how better to understand the universe?) I don't see how laughing or asking an unobjectionable question could offend Him.
We had spaghetti tonight, with meat sauce, is that orthodox Pastafarian or have we created an offshoot? And what about the Parmesan?

I have an outrageous since of humor and am willing to take lightly most things that are said both about myself and my beliefs. I simply do not wish to be told I have to believe one thing or another or that I am stupid to believe in what I hold important. As long as all can be respectful , even while joking, I can live with it.

I can't think of many I've insulted. Perhaps one or two. I've often found that people say things like "lighten up" or "it's just a joke" after they intentionally went out of their way to insult others and basically demonstrate they have no respect for anyone.
It's pretty hypocritical to be expect someone to not insult you when you've just gone out of your way to insult them.

Well honey, there are some users who simply just wanna put others down. To me, that is just not cool as I don't think they wanna be put down themselves too though. Y!A maybe a place for freedom of speech, but over-doing it can lead to been banned and suspended.

Because we live in a highly stressful society and people dont know how or choose not to loosen up and they should because this forum has a lot of wild and crazy people and if cant get a laugh here you cant get it anywhere.

I believe it's the result of what's known as Poe's Law.
Poe's Law:
"Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is impossible to create a parody of Fundamentalism that SOMEONE won't mistake for the real thing."

Jokes about religion are only funny if the all participants believe they're funny. Same as racial humor, in that sense.
A joke that isn't funny to the butt of it isn't a joke. It's a slur.
