Do you ever feel like you're wasting your time here

It is true that Jesus died for our sins (1 Corinthians 15:3). It is also true that Jesus bore our sins in His body on the cross so we might die to sin and live to righteousness (1 Peter 2:24).

But what does it really mean?

Generally speaking, how are atheists treated in other countries? Is there a country in which atheists are not so much of a minority?

Serious question here, so please, only serious answers.

No, I'm not offended by it. Chi (x) and chi-rho (xp) have long been abbreviations for the Greek word we translate as Christ. In fact, it was Christians who first started using the abbreviation xmas. So, I was just wondering why the abbreviation xian seems popular.

I was a trouble maker on this board. I am like many other people trying to "find myself" and have not meant to hurt anybody or put down anybodys beliefs, just trying to make some sence out of what i believe. Have I made anybody here feel uncomfortable? Or that I am trying to cause trouble? (trolls please dont answer) I am sincere, and dont wish to make anybody mad at me.

Why do christians quote this so often when it was not part of the original gospel of John or any part of the bible for that matter? Wouldn't putting words in jesus mouth be some form of serious sin?

Imagine if you are drowning and Jesus tries to throw you a floatation device, but you refuse to take it. If you drown, you have no one to blame but yourself.

Agree?

I am told I am good person. I am thanked for helping my community quite frequently with volunteer work. I have a nice job. I contribute to society. I vote in elections. I am just like any Christian.

Except I do not believe in God.

When someone is told or finds that out...

I get told I'm going to hell. I was once fired from a job for being non-Christian. I get told I'm not a true citizen. I am told I am unmoral, and a bad person. My help is no longer wanted.

All because I said, "I am an atheist."

Isn't there something wrong about that?

So here's the deal: A while ago, at about 11:00 at night, my friend Chris called me freaking out because someone was IMing him from his girlfriends cell phone pretending to be her, but in the meantime she was really on her house phone talking with someone else(we tried calling her real cell, and it said it was out of order and she tells her password to no one). We talked to this person for a while, and it claimed to be Cale, a good friend who had died from being murdered by poison three days earlier. I talked to this person as well, and here's where you come in:

Do you think it's possible for a ghost to talk on AIM to people and making it appear as if they're texting with a phone?

Do give love unconditionally?

I believe the Bible says to forgive and forget. Correct me if I'm wrong. Am I right so far?

OK, assuming that I am, I shall continue on. If the Bible tells man to forgive and forget, then... Why does God send those who "sin" to Hell? Why does he not forgive and forget? Or at least forgive, right? If you think it is because God is not bound by human law, then... What kind of being, higher or not, does this?

I do not consider Him to be benevolent, if he is not held accountable for his own laws he has stated and enforced, am I right? I just want some debate today, no flaming, please. Explain to me why if God is not held accountable for His own actions, and as such, why is he called benevolent.

if He is then why did Jesus pray to "God?"

I know, ur going to say its becuz He's the father, but then that would confirm that the trinity is not true, right?

So God is one, not three forms...?

Peace.

What do you think about this. You've successfully taken BC out of the history books and now it's B.C.E, well let's think what event are you basing it off of? let's hear it come on anyone? What happened 2,007 years ago that we are currently basing the BCE off of, anyone?

Wouldn't you be like Spock?
never laughing
Never enjoying or really getting into anything because
It's not logical.
Never falling in love
never moved with compassion to save a drowning man risking your own life, never risking your life to save another (not logical, not something an evolutionary "being" would do)
I mean have you actually thought about what you are saying
when you say people have no soul?
Seriously?
It's not even logical in light of what humans are capable of!
(in the good or evil realm)
I realize some want to be neutral fearing zeal to be good or evil. but you can't stay neutral forever.

My sister and brother in law have pretty much left the church. They have a beautiful baby and one on the way. There are no plans for baptism and I think they plan on raising them with no religious foundation. I have hinted. I have said my peace but they have made up their minds.

I'm scared for the children. Not only will they miss some formative years, but now I fear that they will be at risk of falling prey to some snake oil religion. People have a spiritual aspect that needs fulfillment. I'd hate to think of their religion being a self help book or some kind of cult or new age thing.

What can I do? Any advice?

Will you please pray that my sister and brother in law come back to the church and that their children get raised in the faith?

Thanks in advance!!!

My theory is that the soul is not made of ordinary matter, so OF COURSE we can't detect it.

Do you think science will ever be able to detect the soul using scientific instruments?

1 John 4
Test the Spirits
1Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
4You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

I was curious to know what the exact definition of mortal sin was so I looked it up. It said that there are three things a sin must be before it is considered mortal:

1.its subject must be grave (or serious) matter;
2.it must be committed with full knowledge, both of the sin and of the gravity of the offense;
3.it must be committed with deliberate and complete consent.

what does the third one mean exactly? I don't quite understand it.

To the Bible says to end the famine that was caused by his predecessor (Saul), David agrees to have seven of Saul's sons killed and hung up "unto the Lord."

21:6 Let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will hang them up unto the LORD in Gibeah of Saul, whom the LORD did choose. And the king said, I will give them.

21:9 And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the hill before the LORD: and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.
