Why do christians quote this so often when it was not part of the original gospel of John or any part of the bible for that matter? Wouldn't putting words in jesus mouth be some form of serious sin?

So Martin just because it sounds like something jesus would have said that is good enough, even though he did not say it?

If it's in the KJV, that's all they care about. Apparently, King James was God.

...read PAULO's answer above if you want to see the level of critical analysis typical of believers

Dear Ra, look how many Christians didn't even comprehend the question. They must not realize that we don't have the original texts, and that what we do have has documentable redactions and interpolations.

You know what's funny to me? It would have been a sin to throw a stone, because they would be breaking the law. If there was one without sin, he would have become a law breaker by throwing a stone. The law required both the man and woman caught in adultery to be stoned Leviticus 20:10. There also had to be witnesses. Deuteronomy 17:6. On top of all that, the witness had to throw the first stone in Deuteronomy 17:7. Since both adulterer's were not present, it's a given that the witnesses were already breaking the law and could not throw a stone. It's just a guess, but perhaps what Jesus was writing in the dirt is the applicable laws? Where was the man? Why didn't the witnesses identify the man? This woman was totally and unlawfully set up in an attempt to trap Jesus. So...back to your question. Jesus knew that all of these men had sin in their lives. All sin leads to death. We are in no position to look down on others. Jesus came to forgive us of our sins. James 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

I looked at some of your reference links. But all I saw were mans (non being inspired by God) interpretation of what they think has or has not been left out or put into the Bible. In your first reference the man states that " although wording varies in the various versions examined here, I have found that the context doesn't. How does that prove that that verse was never part of the original gospel' or any part of the Bible. We are not putting words into Jesuses mouth, those so called scholars are taking words out. There interpretation is no more then an opinion based on other peoples words or writings. The Bible has stood the test of time and history.

Christians quote a lot of verses incorrectly, and they say a lot of things as "fact" (written in the Bible) even when they appear nowhere in the Bible. This includes new believers, Bible scholars, pastors, and everyday Christians alike. The reason for this, I believe is that everyone expects to use the Bible as a tool for whatever subject they are talking about. If the Bible doesn't fit their subject, or they can't find what they want the Bible to say, they adlib it themselves to make it fit within their needs. Unfortunately, many pastors do this and mislead entire congregations. That's why it is so important to study the word of God in it's entirety and to look up anything you question as soon as possible, so you know that what you hear is in fact from the word of God, and not the words of whoever you are listening to. I do think it's sort of ironic that Christians often quote exactly what you mentioned, especially the "he who is without sin" part since the Bible tells us that no one except Jesus is without sin.

Yes, it looks like you have done your home work. But the question is why do you care so much! Why do you spend you time in it! Does the statement bothers you so much, or your dislike to the Christians worth more than your time!

Does it matter where it came from! as long as the statement makes since, that is all it count. And for your info, not just the Christians quote it. You just did.
Do you believe in Jesus now! now you are defending Him. How nice of you. :-)

First of all, Christians should not judge unbelievers. They are already judged by God. We are to reach out to them. Many will not want to hear the truth and that's their freewill to do so. How will God judge you, you my ask? By His law (the 10 commandments). Thats why the commandments are such a big issue in the news today. Unbelievers just don't want to hear it or see it. Only by accepting Christ by faith and not works will you be saved from the judgement to come. Not a judgement by Christians, but by the law giver Himself, God.

Hope that helps.....For more information see www.needgod.org.

Yes, we do not see this in any form of the Bible until the Latin translation. Either way it is a statement of lawlessness (for that time at least), further reinforcing the criminal tendencies of this particular mythic figure. If only those who are perfect can enforce laws, where does that leave us?

Try looking in John 8:3-11
And we are not going on what was or was not put in the Bible of today ...there have been many Bible researcher dedicating their life's to the Bible, translating and going over the scrolls and you couldn't have the information they have and so give us your resource.....There are many of us that have gifts....too. And why this passage was not in some Bibles doesn't mean it wasn't true...it may have been translated later and added..who knows but its in the King James version and it was translated in 1611 for King James,in English and words that meant one thing back then, now means something different,
and why are you anonymous on your profile, who are you afraid of and why are you afraid for your family.........

my gift is prophetic dreams.....

THE DREAM

I DREAMED ONE NIGHT TWO ANGELS CAME TO MY BED. THEY TOOK ME TO HEAVEN I FELT I HAD NOTHING
TO DREAD. WE STOOD IN FRONT OF A BIG WHITE GATE. IT OPENED SLOWLY AS WE STOOD IN WAIT.
MANY CLOUDS BILLOWED AND SWIRLED ABOUT US AS I STOOD IN AWE OF THE SIGHTS AND SOUNDS THAT
SURROUNDED US. WHAT I SAW WORDS COULD NOT EXPRESS, I WANTED TO STAY AT THIS BEAUTIFUL ADDRESS.
THE ANGELS ALLOWED ME TO LOOK INSIDE, THE BEAUTY THE MAJESTY, MADE ME CRY.
"IT'S TRUE, IT'S ALL TRUE, I KNOW THAT IT'S TRUE" I HEARD MYSELF CRY, AS TEARS RAN STREAMING
FROM MY EYES.
I KNEW WHAT I SAW WAS NOT OF THIS EARTH,THIS CREATION WAS FOR THOSE OF THE NEW BIRTH. THE
POWER, THE BEAUTY, THE SIGHT OF IT ALL WAS SO STRONG,THAT THE ANGELS SHUT THE GATES QUICKLY
TO MY NEW HOME. "IT'S NOT YOUR TIME," I HEARD THEM SAY, " WE JUST WANTED YOU TO SEE WHAT WAS
ON THE WAY," THEY SAID "YOU WILL NOT REMEMBER WHAT YOU HAVE SEEN INSIDE THE GATE, BUT YOU WILL REMEMBER WHERE
YOU HAVE BEEN.YOU MUST TELL OTHERS ABOUT THIS DREAM. THAT GOD'S WORD IS TRUE. IT'S THE REAL THING.
GOD HAS LET YOU SEE WHAT IS YOUR REWARD IF YOU WORSHIP, LOVE HIM, AND KEEP HIS WORD."
WE ALL NEED TO REALIZE THAT IT'S REALLY TRUE. WE NEED TO GET THE LOST ONES IN IF IT'S ALL THAT WE
DO. WE DON'T HAVE MUCH TIME, THE END IS NEAR, AND YES, IF YOU ARE LOST YOU HAVE EVERYTHING TO FEAR.
CALL ON JESUS NOW, SO YOU CAN GO TO AND YOU'LL SEE WHAT I SAW AND YOU'LL BE EXCITED TOO.
I'LL SOON BE IN MY NEW HOME,PASS THE BIG WHITE GATES. DON'T YOU WANT TO GO THERE TOO? I JUST CAN'T
WAIT!!!!

I REALLY DREAMED THIS DREAM JUST AS IT IS WRITTEN. I FEEL IT WAS INSPIRED BY GOD AND HE GUIDED MY
THOUGHTS AND MY HAND IN PUTTING THIS TOGETHER.

I AM GIVING THIS TO YOU BECAUSE I LOVE YOU AND GOD HAS DIRECTED ME TO DO SO.
I HOPE THIS MESSAGE WILL HELP YOU TO MAKE THE BIGGEST DECISION OF YOUR LIFE
TO ACCEPT JESUS AS YOUR PERSONAL SAVIOR AND TO SERVE HIM. SO YOU, ONE DAY
WILL STAND AT THE BIG WHITE GATE AND BE INVITED IN FOR ETERNITY

Most Christians who have not had any college level courses on the Bible or textual criticism just accept that every single word in the Bible was inspired by God and only "transcribed" through the authors. They usually also believe that each new testament book was actually written by the person whose name it bears, while that was seldom the case.

Serious inquiry into the matter is not encouraged by church leaders, in most cases.
