It is true that Jesus died for our sins (1 Corinthians 15:3). It is also true that Jesus bore our sins in His body on the cross so we might die to sin and live to righteousness (1 Peter 2:24).

But what does it really mean?

When we read these verses without the benefit of an Old Testament understanding of what is being addressed, we misunderstand the covenant discipline of suffering. Agree or disagree?

I disagree with those who said "Jesus did it all there is nothing more I can do." If that is the case why don't we just go on sinning?

Jesus is the sacrificial Lamb of God.

While in the Garden, Adam & Eve lived on a much higher plane than we do now. That is, they were much closer to God and their nature was such that they were NOT SUPPOSED to sin. They were given one prohibition, and they willfully disobeyed.

Now, becuase of their above mentioned state, their sin was great.......far greater than the sins of their decendants. Why? Because we are born with original sin (the Blessed Virgin excluded), and our human nature is now flawed. We are liable to sin. That is to say, that because of our diminshed state, God knows that sometime during our lifetime we will commit sin.

Now, the sin of Adam was soooo great that it became impossible for man to henceforth reside in the kingdom of Heaven.....in the presence of Almighty God. Heavenly bodies are pure......with the sin of Adam man became impure.

Now, it is beyond our understanding, but the sin of Adam was soooo great that the only Son of God had to atone for it. To do this He had to sacrifice Himself upon the cross. In order to accomplish this the Blessed Virgin gave Him flesh (which is why she is rightly called the Mother of God...Jesus is both God and man (John 1))

Jesus hung on the cross suspended between Heaven and Earth as an offering/sacrfice to His Father. Upon His expiration on the cross, the veil in the Holy of Holies, was torn. The significance of this is the transference of God from the synagogue to the Church....and that all men can now approach God. Previously, onLY the High Priest was allowed within the Holy of Holies, and only on one day of the year.

Now....Jesus established Baptism, the sacrament by which we are justified in faith with God and our inherited original sin is forgiven. Knowing man's impaired state and that he would sin again during his lifetime, Jesus gave us the sacrament of Reconciliation, whereby God forgives our sins through His priest.......just as He forgives our original sin through His priest in Baptism.

See:

Through the sacraments of Baptism and Reconciliation, we claim our inheritance won for us by Jesus on the cross.

God bless you and your family,

Cubbie

When God created humans, He gave us free will and we sin by our nature. In order to prevent us from going to hell, He sent Jesus. Jesus accepted our sins when He was crucified. Because of this, we can accept Jesus as our Savior and not have to go to hell. God really loves us and He wants us to go to heaven. Remember, He does give us the freedom to make a choice. I hope you make the choice to follow Him.

God only accepts Holiness in His presence. Therefore one must be without sin to be with Him. To pay for sin, someone must suffer the consequences, death.

Therefore Jesus died so we don't have to, and so we don't have to keep killing animals as well. But better still, when He died on the cross we died with Him so we now can overcome sin, and not be subject to sin any more. Although sin nature still resides in our bodies, and we must fight it every day, we now have a choice.

That when he died on the cross, he sacrificed himself for the sins of man.

As the sacrificial lamb for passover he took our sins upon himself, died and on the third day arose and joined his father in heaven where he is preparing a place for those that believe in him and have confessed with there mouths and believed in there hearts that he is the son of god and or Redeemer.

that is what it means in the scripture that he died for our sins.

No. "Sin" is a religious invention, and Jesus is a fictional character, simply one in a long line of fictional god-men. Most of Jesus' attributes and teachings were "borrowed" from older myths and philosophies.

Did a historical Jesus exist?
http://www.nobeliefs.com/exist.htm
[Excerpt]

ALL CLAIMS OF JESUS DERIVE FROM HEARSAY ACCOUNTS

No one has the slightest physical evidence to support a historical Jesus; no artifacts, dwelling, works of carpentry, or self-written manuscripts. All claims about Jesus derive from writings of other people. There occurs no contemporary Roman record that shows Pontius Pilate executing a man named Jesus. Devastating to historians, there occurs not a single contemporary writing that mentions Jesus. All documents about Jesus got written well after the life of the alleged Jesus from either: unknown authors, people who had never met an earthly Jesus, or from fraudulent, mythical or allegorical writings. Although one can argue that many of these writings come from fraud or interpolations, I will use the information and dates to show that even if these sources did not come from interpolations, they could still not serve as reliable evidence for a historical Jesus, simply because all sources derive from hearsay accounts.

Hearsay means information derived from other people rather than on a witness' own knowledge.

Courts of law do not generally allow hearsay as testimony, and nor does honest modern scholarship. Hearsay provides no proof or good evidence, and therefore, we should dismiss it.

It means man was dead in his sin because God is a righteous God that does not agree with sin. When man sinned he fell short of the glory of God and was separated from his creator who sustained him. All men sin and all men die. Jesus si the Son of God a part of the whole of God that was in the beginning with God. God is all knowing and knew that man would sin.
God had a plan of salvation before creation.
God's plan was to come to the world and overcome temptation as a man and to remain perfect and overcome sin and death for all who accept the atonement.

In the old covenant, the only way man could repent was to sacrifice an animal to God. The blood of that animal would cleanse that person till they sinned again. Because Christ was the blameless lamb, His blood was pure and holy, when He sacrificed Himself for us He was able to bear all of our sins (like the animal), except His blood was able to cleanse us of sins of the past, present, and future ...if only we asked and believed in Him.

OK, picture this. It will help you to understand.............

A man is in court and standing before the Judge. He is accused of murder and has been found guilty. The Judge is about to hand the sentence of Life Imprisonment. The murderer is trully sorry but that is not going to help him right? Well, there is someone else in the courtroom who who steps forward and says to the Judge: I came here to save this man. I am here to take his punishment so that the sinner may be set free.

This is what Jesus did, in effect for ALL mankind. God sent his only begotten Son for that very purpose. To take our sins open himself, to take the punishment of Death. Now, through the grace of God, we can come to Him and confess our Sins, accept Jesus into our hearts and we are Saved.
That is the meaning of: Repent and be saved and Death where is your victory, Where is your Sting? Christ has overcome Death and made it possible for us mortals to attain immortality through the Blood of Jesus Christ.

if im "reading u right" on the q. details, then i can still say what i was planning;

death is the penalty 4 sinning

we are all sinners

so God sent His Son 2 die 4 us bcuz He knew that we are all sinners, because if He didnt, then there would be no chance for anyone getting 2 Heaven.

so naturally, Jesus, God's Son, paid the penalty FOR us so that we may still have a chance. its just simply up to us 2 accept & take that.

i hoped i defined it to your understanding.
