Prominent pastor/teacher R.C. Sproul has said something to the effect of: All theologians are correct only about 80% of the time. Is that good enough? Why or why not?

That is why you should ALWAYS check everything your pastor says with Scripture. It's not being rude, it's being smart. If you're already in your Word then you'll know when something is not aligning up with God's Word.

I agree with jp. the best way to get the truth is to read the Bible for your self, praying to God for understanding.
Not changing Gods word to fit us, but changing our life's, according to Gods word. That is just statistics, that anybody can come up with. Not all people know every thing, and some will never know enough. But what should matter to each person, is how much they know them selves.

Cause they're only human?

Certainly it could be because of doctrine. I think you have to give latitude that they are allowed their own opinion also.

the most correct people will ever be, is if they read straight from the Bible... and don't change the meaning to fit their lives, they have to change their lives to fit the Bible...
