I am told I am good person. I am thanked for helping my community quite frequently with volunteer work. I have a nice job. I contribute to society. I vote in elections. I am just like any Christian.

Except I do not believe in God.

When someone is told or finds that out...

I get told I'm going to hell. I was once fired from a job for being non-Christian. I get told I'm not a true citizen. I am told I am unmoral, and a bad person. My help is no longer wanted.

All because I said, "I am an atheist."

Isn't there something wrong about that?

I learned a while ago to not be open about my non-beliefs in public... still I should have had to learn the way I did.

Life is a dance Highlander it was never meant to be fair or just simply for the sake of it. Most people just find like minded peers to relate to but the rebel in you likes to stir the pot. I have been through the whole gamut of atheist to agnostic to christian to now borderline christian intolerant. I will say that if you want to experience any true measure of success then conformity is a must.[ Look at any successful bus. and you will most likely find the owner is a christian to some degree. That is just the way it is has been and will be. That does not mean that you are any less awesome than you know that you are if that is any consolation.

The world often gets offended by a persons personal choice. You can do whatever you want but you better not say it. People often get killed for what they reveal about themselves. What is a good person?Jesus said "there is none good but God." You are not just like any other Christian. Christians are followers of the Christ and his word. We sin! Do you sin? We have a relationship with God! Do you? People get fired daily for admitting they are Christian. They are lied on and cheated. Mocked and persecuted. Looking for flaws?Yet a non-believer does not know a thing about Christianity and has no desire to know. Christians are thanked for the same reasons you described. All because we are Christians. We hear it often your help is no longer needed! Except we believe in the king of life. Jesus!

I was dismissed from a job because I said God has no part in their behavior. Yet the judge that handled my case give me my unemployment and said Because I said God I was fired? Can anyone compare themselves to God? Without being his children?

Society in America, and even the world in general, is biased. Too fat, too skinny, too poor, too rich, too religious, not religious enough, or anything like that. And revealing your religion is NOT a good idea if you're atheist, nowadays.

You will be hatefully persecuted, as you have experienced. Everyone should sign a petition to make America "religiously tolerant" again, or those who break the religious harmony will pretty much get kicked into jail. And if anyone fires you for being atheist, try consulting a lawyer. If your lawyer refuses to help, which if he does, you can probably get him in trouble with the legal systems and stuff.

Nuts isn't it!
Their way of loving you to God is telling you that you're going to hell.
They think they serve God too.
No wonder people don't believe in God.
I wouldn't believe in such a God either.
The God I'm coming to know introduced himself through other people that love people and would never say such things. I don't know this God well yet but I know this God is real because the people he shines through are so incredible.

Such Christians should feel deep and perpetual shame for reacting so judgmentally.

yes, we live in a society that looks down at atheists. like somehow we are bad because we don't believe in some higher being. that we must not have morals. frankly, it bothers me when some religious people try to force their beliefs onto me. why can't we just all respect each others religious or anti-religious beliefs. with that said, yes it's very wrong!

Atheists are thee most misunderstood group of people in the world. They suffer from discrimination that is totally unwarranted. Ironically, they also, by and large, have the strongest ethical system and moral standards. Additionally, they are among the most highly educated, intelligent, and knowledgeable people in the world. You are a minority, but you're in good company. You were brave to 'come out' so to speak. The masses are asses. Take care, the world needs more people like you.

That is totally ridiculous... when you say to people you don't believe in god it is like they thing you can't have convictions or morals. I have a very close friend who is atheist and he had told someone that he was atheist and the person asked how he could restrian his urges to rape people!!!!! like...unless you are christian you don't have the urge to committ sexual crime...which is completely untrue. I was married to a "christian" and never in my life have I come across someone so sexually depraved.

I am an atheist, too. Yes, there definitely is something wrong with being discriminated against. This is why it's best not to bring up religion in a public discussion since you never know who is listening. You have a lot to lose in this society for being a non-believer.

def. a law suite!

sounds like you need to stop allowing people to hurt you..
people will put you down no matter what so i would stop telling people what is not their buisness to begin with
