…and call us blasphemers and liars (so not all Evangelicals – just the ones who persecute the Saints in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.)

How do you justify your actions/words with regard to these 2 scriptures below (admittedly taken out of context after a fashion) – but the spirit of these scriptures lends itself to saying that those who preach goodness and do good to others is on the side of the Lord?

Mark 9:40 -- For he that is not against us is on our part.
Luke 9:50 -- And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.

The LDS church does much good in the world and its members are known world-wide as good “family” people and good members of society (with very few notable exceptions).

So are you acting against the principles of these 2 scriptures and if not, how do you justify your actions?

Thanks
D

A form of witchcraft that worships a goddess and her partner and lover the horned one. However does not follow any Reade or written words but follows upon intuition, moral values, and the ways of the old stone age religions which includes equality for all, no superiority, worship and work with elementals, otherworld, spirits, reincarnation until fulfilled destiny, believes in self defense and using or controlling karma for that purpose, uses both "plus and negative" sides of magic though believes not to classify magic as good nor evil. Loves nature, respect and worships it, and others as well, loyalty to your lover and the belief in soul mates (the belief that another shares your soul) is very important. does not believe in the modern form of witchcraft believing it's lost its touch but focuses ont he ancient witchcraft instead, no initiations to enter such faith. what would you call this faith.

I have a friend who is a Jehovah's Wittness and I would like to show them why people like me are atheists and give them a chance to see the other side of their "truth". What evolution and natural selection is really about. But I'm affraid that they will be turned away from the book because of Dawkins' somewhat arrogant performance. That would really be a shame because it's worth reading for all the right reasons. What do you think?

that i'm an atheist? she's a full christian, and i'm really not sure how her response would be. i told my boyfriend (who's also a devoted christian) and he accepts it as who i am....i'm just not sure how to bring it up to my best friend though? any ideas? because i want her to know, i don't want to keep any secrets from her, but i don't want her to bug out or anything either. i'm jsut tired of pretending to be a christian just so she won't find out. like every now and then we'll get on the subject of god and i have to try to keep my mouth shut. and PLEASE for those of you who are going to be like 'just tell her' or 'stupid atheists'......i really don't need that. this is just a simple question, for those of you who are going to bash me please just keep it to yourselves. well thanks in advance!

I see criticisms of Chritians as being illogical. I understand logic in a formal sense to be a set of arguments derivable from a set of formal axioms that are held to be true and, together with these axioms, form a self-consistent system of language and argument (my chimera of a definition).

In this sense, is the above statement axiomatic? Regardless of the truth of the Bible, it seems that Christians' (paraphrased and oft-denegrated) "God did it" and "It says so in the Bible" statements are truly self-consistent and therefore arguably logical.

I'm not a formal student of the philosophy of logic but I've dabbled a bit into its foundations and readings so if anyone can help me here, I'd appreciate it.

I am told by many (not all) that the OT was but a framework for the NT, written prior to the passion of Christ and thus its laws, like not being allowed to own more than one goat, eat shellfish, or wear any blend of fabric, are negated by the laws of Christ. Yet homosexuals are still abominations in the eyes of most Christians. This is what I have read when questioning the laws of the Levites.

1. We don't follow Leviticus, Leviticus is OT. We follow the NT.

2. Homosexuals are abominations! It says so in Leviticus.

3. The OT is a framework for the NT. It was before the passion and thus its laws were negated by the birth of Christ.

4. God is Christ. Christ is God. Can you understand that? Therefore, the laws God made in the OT are true except the ones I don't like. Like the shellfish one. Love that shrimp.

5. The God of the OT is NOT the God of the NT.

6. They are the same God, only Jesus wasn't born yet.

SO...

Do you acknowledge that you probably use the same logic and reasoning to every other god (whether you have studied them or not) that Atheists use to your god?

I'm just curious. Because then maybe you can put yourself in our shoes if only for a moment and understand that we just use that same logic and reasoning on your god as well.

My brother is a Christian and I am an Atheist. We like to debate. This is how we do it first we read the book then we switch books.

Right now I (the Atheist) am reading "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis.

My bro (the Christian) is reading "ATHEISM, The Case Against God."

Questions:
1. Does anyone else do these kind of exercises?
2. What is your opinion of what we do?
3. Would you be willing to do this why or why not?

I am not looking for fast answers so please consider carefully and respond thoughtfully. We have done this 2 times before with different books and we both still hold to our beliefs.

I admit to doing this too - just getting mad about people who are different then us?

Ever heard the saying
'You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink'
Don't shove our beliefs down their throats. If we want to set examples, like God wants us to, were not doing so good(especially me)

I mean this doesn't happen every time, but sometimes on this program I say the rudest things come out of a Christian mouth. I think we know better...

I think next time we are judged, we should turn the other cheek, instead of losing our tempers

I'm not confronting you necessarily, because I do this a lot

Again, I'm not judging the entire Christian population

why shouldnt "fundamentalist Mormans" be allowed to practice polygamy even if it is a religious practice?

At 3pm CST(GMT -6) this afternoon, God sent a vision to Fred Phelps. Fred was too busy fornicating with a first cousin to pay attention. So, as the first available prophet of the inactive reserve, (Don't ask,) it was forwarded to me.

As I lay sleeping off some Chinese Buffet, An IM in letters of fire a quarter cubit tall appeared above my bed, sayething,

"Not by the hand of Ceasar, nor by men who lieth with men, nor by the unbeliever shall Israel be saved, nor by such shall my Kingdom on Earth be accomplishedeth."

The message is clear. Ol' Inbred Fred has had it wrong. Iraq isn't God's punishment for the US harboring gays. We haven't won because Gays unbelievers and backsliders weak in their Faith are allowed to fight in this Holiest of Wars.

We need to pull the troops out last week. And arrange for the Faithful to go to the Mideast and start blowing themselves up at people until, well, Kingdom Come.

Comments, responsible or otherwise, invited.

what others think of the Scripture when Jesus tells the people that he will condemn those that saw him hungry or thirsty or naked or in need and didn't DO anything while he will welcome into Heaven those that fed him when he was naked and gave him to drink when he was thirsty and clothed him when he was naked. Those are certainly works. Faith and works go hand in hand don't you feel?
