i am sso confused. this woman from a christian church told me that christians only believe in jesus christ and not mary the virgin and that catholics believe in god, jesus, and the holy spirit. and that catholics have to tell the father of the church their sins so that he can tell jesus. but christians can pray by themselves?????

i believe in god, jesus, mary the virgin, and the holy spirit. i also prefer to pray to the lord to forgive me of my sins. what would that make me????

I've noticed many people in church who aren't passionate about the things of God. My first question is why? My second question is: How do you become more enthusiastic and excited about God, church, and life in general?

Hello all, I believe in ghosts and just wondered if others did. Now the one that really got me into believing happened to my father about 30 years ago.
To this day, he does not bring it up and it brings tears to his eyes if asked about it. Once night at our house as he was watching TV, he felt someone behind him. He turned around and his mother who had died 2 years prior was standing there smiling at him. He said she looked like she was prior to becoming sick. He said she smiled, he looked away and then she was gone. He said he was not scared, but at peace. It happened again 2 days later when her face was shown at a door entrance and again she was smiling. 2 Days later, his father suddenly died of a heart attack. You probably have to know my dad to actually beleive it, but he is the ONLY person probably that I would ever beleive if told something like this. I really believe him and half to believe in ghosts.

Christians say that the Messiah came once allready and He will come again to fulfill the rest of the prophesies. Jews say the Messiah has not come yet and will fulfill all prophesies at once. Christians: Where in the Bible does it reference that the Messiah will come twice? That is, once to be a servant and once(2nd coming) to defeat God's enemys???

It's just too filled with hate filled bigots who are going to hate no matter what anyone does or says. If a Muslim were to lay down their life to save them and they saw this, they'd still say they hate them or somehow twist it into a "good, they're worthless anyway. Only good Muslim is a dead one".

I'm moving onto a better place, where this type of hatred is almost non existant. You people just have so much hatred and are so blinded by your hatred, you refuse to see the good in anyone you've already made up your mind about even never having met them or seen them on the site before. Good luck and I sincerely hope you seek psychiatric help for the delusion you have that every single one of us wants to come after you.

How can every species fit into the ark?

that is impossible.. it tells you how big the ark is

Genesis 6:15

And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.

male and female of EVERY species.. AND human food AND food for ALL those animals.. into one ark? any christians care to explain this for me please?

in Matthew 6, v5+6 (Sermon on the Mount) Jesus says....

"And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. "

when jesus has said to pray in secret, how can you justify going to church to pray?

Whether it's a religious cult, or just a cult calling itself a "club", people are joining these things because they feel there's strength in numbers. But what they don't realize is by joining one, they give up all of their individuality for the sake of pleasing the group. And then, when they finally realize it and try to leave, they get to see a darker side to the people they thought would be there for them. Here's a few examples from MY life(because no one's immune):

-A friend of mine works for one of those multi-level marketing companies and he tried to recruit me. But when I researched the company and found out it was a scam, he got mad and now we don't talk anymore.

-When I left my church at 16, all of my "best friends" and even the Youth Pastor started spreading rumors that I left because I did drugs/got pregnant/(insert crime here). I went there since I was 7! And all I had said was that I wanted some time to think about my beliefs alone. And needless to say I'll never go back

I've had some family drama recently and got into this conversation with my uber-religious grandmother.

She basically told me that the commandments regarding adultery and coveting only apply to men. They do not apply to women, be it coveting in the flesh or coveting in the heart.

Now, I've read the Bible and gone to church for years and years, but I always thought that the commandments against cheating and coveting applied to both sexes.

Is my grandmother right or is she crazy?

system? Or does it show that many Americans prefer ancient religious texts over scientific theories and reasoning in determining the truth about life?

The Gallup Poll has found several correlating factors (possible causes):

Percentages represent those who agree with the theory

74% of post-graduates
41% of high shool or less
indicating that education is a factor

24% of regular church attenders
71% of those who seldom/ never attend
showing that religion also plays a huge role

From my personal experience, doubters of evolution seem to disagree because of unwillingness to think of an ape as their ancestor, but even moreso from misconceptions of the theory. For example, they believe the theory states everything arose by chance, that life is "trying" to evolve, and that there are no "transitional fossils".

What can be done to end this embarrassment in America? Should scientists do a better job of educating the public?

I'm curious. I give well-educated, well-researched, answers. I thought that is what this site is supposed to be about.

But hateful, angry christians with low self-esteem go through each Q&A string, and flag like crazy -- any and every Q or A that they don't agree with. I have no idea what number screen-name i'm on now...but i had to start over again...

It doesn't matter that the question or answer is correct, or even GOOD. If they disagree with it, then they hate you, and send off a complaint.

Do any of you know of any other message boards where xian haters cannot squelch free speech? Where people can share different points of view without christians ruining the site with their petty nonsense and bias?

It would be nice to find a board that encourages a free exchange of ideas without bieng penalized for being real, educated, intelligent, logical, blunt/honest, and having a non-christian point of view. Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks in advance!!

If we can accept that 90% of those who are of a particular religion have parents of that religion do Christians in this situation think it's lucky to be born into a Christian home or is there a believe that even if born in a country like Saudi Arabia they would have been lured to Christianity?
