Wow! You must really get around if you have heard "most preachers"!

The pastor at the fellowship I attend sounds more like a caring neighbor, than a used car salesman. In fact, I've been going to church for over 50 years and never heard a minister sound like a used car salesman. Guess I've been sheltered! LOL!!

Because car salesmen, like many ministers, may try to sell you something you don't wanna buy. They beat a dead horse, so to speak. Or they try to sell you something you already own. Or they try talking to you about how good the car is when you already know more about the car then them. Or it is just "their job" and not their passion, so they are bored and treat the customer just like every other one. Just one more customer, blah blah blah. Few are actually passionate at heart, its just a job for them.

I think they think that if they use vocal inflection it will help them - it doesn't.

When Jonathan Edwards delivered his sermon Sinners in the hands of an angry God - he just got up there and read it. But it changed the nation. He didn't jump up and down and yell and scream or anything.

My pastor doesn't, and I know plenty more who don't.
And how can you really say "most" have you had experience with every preacher in the world, and noted that majority sound like that. I think not.
=)

bad training. lack of understanding of the scripture, poor mentors if any at all, the misapprehension that christ must be "sold" as opposed to just revealed.
