Osage elders developed a religion and general ideology that focused on how the prevailing forces of chaos could be offset by order on cosmic as well as human levels. The Osage Tribal Religion was based on the path of the sun and its life-giving force. Following the sacred order ensured health, prosperity, and the integrity of the Osage people.

Ask the Osage Indians who study the history of their people. They, I think believed in The Great White Father, Don't know but I have heard that line maybe in a movie. Maybe The Great Father. I don't think they were into a thousand and one gods.

The link posted in the first answer looks interesting.
Something you should remember is that the Native Americans were decimated by disease and warfare. The people they interacted with were anything but objective anthropologists, they were priests evangelizing and traders looking to make a buck.
By the time anthropologists started working with Native Americans their culture had changed drastically. The reality is that what the Europeans took was not the land or the lives from Native Americans, it was their culture.
the late arriving anthropologists found themselves in a situation where they had to pay for or trade for cultural information from tattered remnants and as a result much of the recorded history, religion and practices of Native Americans are cultural constructs, similar to the original culture but very corrupted.
Leaders and Teachers are often the first to fall from disease and are always targeted in warfare.
Even African Americans brought to the Americas and forced into a new culture still had their original culture back in Africa.
Native Americans literally lost everything.
