I still have a VERY strong belief in God and Jesus, but my belief is based on personal experience and has NOTHING to do with what men have interpreted or written in flawed texts such as the bible. Does anyone else believe in God/Jesus but not in the way organized religion has made us believe?

Something happened today that got me extremely depressed. As some of u know, i went to my orientation today. Everything went well till they found out i had no I.D. They didnt give me another day to get one though, they basicly said get out. So im extremely depressed, im not even up for making jokes today. Can u help cheer me up? They say laughter is the best medicine, so please make me laugh.

P.S. I thank all those who gave me advise for my first job, i may not need it anymore, but it definatly helped me. Thanks.

Is it right to affect someone's life adversely if that person is not hurting you or anyone else with their actions? If someone hurts no one but themselves, wouldn't it be immoral to interfere in their lives to make them abide by your belief system?

I am in college, and I am 26 and it seems like they act suspicious when you ask them out, and like it's a sin or something. What do you think, and has anyone been in this situation before? Could age be a factor with them? If I like someone I wold ask them out as long as they are 18. Is that bad????

lol. I've observed this before and it's horrible to think that I want to flirt with them when they knock instead of being 'educated.' So...I just pretend not to be home. Is it so people will have a harder time refusing them? lol. I feel silly tonight.

Religion is like a prescription drug, It is prescribed to make you feel good and help you out when you can't usually help yourself. Then you meet other people who take the drug too, so it feels like you are part of a big club. Some people may even like to endorse the drug to others because they feel like it might help them like it helped you. But some people become addicts, They start ignoring reason and rationality and they get angry when you try to take the drug away from them. For some reason they get angry when other people don't take the same prescription as they do and they cling to the belief that the only pill to take is thier own. Then they get out of control and angry and won't listen to anyone, they are stuck in their addiction so much that they ignore the fact that people aren't trying to take their pills away, we are simply trying to get them to understand that maybe the prescription wasn't a good idea in the first place, but its ok to have it, Just keep it to yourself?

I think that some churches don't even recognize them as being true marriages cause they aren't in a church. So why shouldn't homosexuals be allowed to have those? Or does that show that it's really about money...?

please no spouting stuff about how God says that homosexuals are abominations and stuff like that. It's old. It's tired. How about actually answering the question. Why shouldn't they be allowed to have civil unions?

My son is taking a biology class and the prof. gave them a reading assignment called Why We Believe.
Here is the link to that letter/article:

http://facstaff.unca.edu/pomfrey/Biology%20123.htm

I found it very thought provoking and I thought about my new cronies here on Y!A while reading it. So I am throwing it out there to see what you think.

This is along the lines of other questions that have been asked lately, and I think we are doing well to continue the thread.

Inspiration can come from the devil as surely as he can appear as an angel of light. Truely the christian history has proven that politics formed the bible. This is truly a false doctrine that blinds all christians and likewise Jews and Muslims.
The words of God cannot be bound, (i.e. in a book) and I have learned by personal experience that Inspiration is NOT always GodBreathed! Nor is everything I once believed, the truth. I have learned that I can be inspired by false impressions and misguided, but i believe christians are truly blind to their own traditions and false doctrines.
How can any prove that God wrote the bible? HE did not.

(if you do in fact believe so).

Is it because people have "faith" in scientific theories that are not proven true?
-- even though it is quite different from blind faith

Or the belief most atheists share that our universe can be explained by natural means?

Or are there other reasons?

how about germ theory? what about electromagnetic theory? why do i never see any of you scoffing at these things, they are, after all, only theories...right? why have you reserved your most passionate vitriol for the theory of evolution? you may recall, when it was decided that the big-bang theory seemed to support the genesis story's claim that "in the beginning, there was nothing", the church wasted no time in pointing this out...

Why aren't atheists sent to their deaths by the government? Why are natural history museums popping up all over the U.S, filling the country with their satanic lies of evolution, and dinosaurs? Why don't the churches hold any say in the government? Why does no one take the Christians seriously when they speak the word of truth, God, Christ, and Mary Poppins? I will just never understand!

in the new world translation of the holy scriptures, if you compare john 1:1 (where the jehovahs witnesses changed the scripture to note Jesus as simply "a god". )
How do you justify Isaiah 9:6 when Jesus was called "Mighty God" and "Eternal Father".....

notice the CAPITAL "G"
I know how jw's are sticklers for complete accurate knowledge.

and...i have a feeling that some of you will try to back this up by saying that he is not called the "Almighty God" as jehovah would be called....but in Isaiah 10:21 God is only refered to as Mighty. (upper case "M")
& in Jeremiah 32:18 God is refered to as mighty (lower case "m" )

so....if Mighty means lesser, then technically Jehovah would be concidered lesser right?

this is a serious question here please
