They seem good enough to get most of the world believing in them. Besides, you forget the time period that these gods were invented. Sure TODAY we can conjure up better gods than misogynists, but back in the old days a misogynist god was thought to be very good!
The good thing about people coming up with gods today is that we can actually gather evidence from today. Frequently there is no evidence for or against gods from the past, which is why the PAST gods persist.

If I took a half an hour I could write a way better religion than any in existence. The holy books of the major religions are bizarre and don't prove any particular point. They're poorly written with glaring contradictions and purely ungodlike behavior. If we were to gather the best fiction writers of our time, I bet they could put together one reasonable religion.

Your idea is excellent! And, in fact, I did just that for a book which I self-published (fiction, obviously!), inventing a character named AurL (which means Golden Light) who is Original Consciousness, having emanated from Ain (No-Thing, analogous to the naked singularity of the Big Bang Theory) and then working through scientific principles. He requires no adoration nor awe because he does not know why he is the Creator. And, he is totally benevolent, the presence of Evil in the Cosmos and our World being the result of AurL's allowing refuge in his Creation to the vile perpetrators of a creation attempt which imploded, AurL's reason for such charity being that he wished not to annihilate any sentient beings by his own incitation of a vast Universe. I personally prefer AurL to any of the entities currently represented by the terrestrial religions!

These ''gods'' were created at a time when people knew little about our universe and the laws of science and were easily frightened. It was done this way as a means of control. We (humans) should have outgrown this by now. Maybe someday.

Okay then do it ? I challenge you. And when you're done send me your Book that you wrote and I will compare it to the Quran, Or actually write just a single page like it if you can, and show me your good work.
