Is it because people have "faith" in scientific theories that are not proven true?
-- even though it is quite different from blind faith

Or the belief most atheists share that our universe can be explained by natural means?

Or are there other reasons?

I follow Jesus, and I am not into religions.

I don't know if I'd call it a religion, but it's certainly filling some of the same roles. People turn to it for answers, and in some case comfort. I'd also say the devotion that some people have to it comes close to worship.
