southsider, my life is real..you can reach out and touch me. I'm real. However, can you say the same about the characters in the Bible?
I don't hate the Bible, I think it is a wonderful piece of literature. But should I base my life on it? no.

Ignore the rude comments, it's a very good question. As far as Jesus being savior, read this list that describes in prophetic passages who the Messiah was to be...
http://www.schneblin.com/studies/pdfs/in_the_volume_of_the_book.pdf
They say that because most of the fulfillment takes place within the Bible itself, that it was "tweaked" to look like it was fulfilled, but only made up to look fulfilled. Which is not accurate since we all know that the Bible was made incrementally. I mean, can we all agree that the New Testament was written AFTER the Old Testament? And why would the Jewish people wish to validate New Testament prophecy? Remember, it was Jesus who stood in the synagogue and proclaimed "This scripture has been fulfilled". What scripture? Isaiah, which has the most specific Messianic prophecies of any other book in the Bible.
And if it is self-validating, how is it that there is equally specific prophecy that is NOT recorded in the Bible, but rather our own history books?
Example, (If you know your history) Alexander the Great was on his way to conquer Jerusalem. He had a dream of a procession. When he marched toward Jerusalem he saw a procession of the Jews coming to hopefully persuade him not to attack the city. The procession was just like the one in his dream. When he stopped and listened to the chief priest, he was shown a scroll of Ezekiel 26 where it describes how he conquered the city of Tyre. This so amazed Alexander, that he bypassed Jerusalem. (however, he still ended up conquering it later).
When Alexander died, his kingdom was divided between his four generals. Those which dealt specifically with Egypt and Israel were detailed within prophecy while Daniel was under the servitude of Babylon. It is detailed here, passage by passage.

Here is the listing for ten specific prophecies regarding the rebirth of Israel.
http://www.konig.org/page5.htm
The entire time line from the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem, until the end of Revelation is given in a prophecy to Daniel. Note, that this could not be contrived because the Jews do not accept the New Testament. You need to think on that. Why would a prophecy confirm the DAY Jesus was to arrive, as well as the book of Revelation?

most of my family is christian and they believe in a literal translation of the bible..... I almost had an argument about the authenticity of Adam and Eve's actual historical existence with my mother last week. She insists that they are real and I insist they are characters in a story to explain creation. In the end I lowered my weapons and retreated. I mean I know I won't change her mind and why do I care? Let her believe what she wants as long as she doesn't try to impose her beliefs on me, ya know?
Anyway to the point.... Lots of literalists believe that The Bible holds every answer to every question in infinity. What I find interesting is that when you speak to a person such as this, you will find that they sorta intuitively "fill in" the missing pieces to make it all work.... OR even more, I find they will really stretch an interpretation to suit what they want it to mean or say. In either case it's a complete contradiction to what they claim to believe.
As for Harry Potter, I can't help you, but I feel your pain.... more than you may know! LOL
Live and let live is my motto... just wish others could adopt the same.

Dear Low Rain,
Your life validates you..now if someone should question your life, is it true or not
The bible has and will continue to be punished for simply a love letter by God to you...its how you percieve that love, and how you accept it..but you have to read the whole letter.
Do you take emails out of context, or text messages out of context, you read them all, give the bible that same respect.
The bible validates itself because for one, so many are angry at it, and hate it, because it shows us for what we are.
But the great thing is Grace!!!
The bible is historical, and very relevant.
You will be amazed at what you allow yourself to really understand.

More than 2 thousand years before Jesus was born, it was revealed that a Savior was going to be born. If that don't validate it for you, then hell will be your final place.

Apparently the Bible is true because the Bible SAYS that it is true.
Hard to argue with that kind of logic.
