I still have a VERY strong belief in God and Jesus, but my belief is based on personal experience and has NOTHING to do with what men have interpreted or written in flawed texts such as the bible. Does anyone else believe in God/Jesus but not in the way organized religion has made us believe?

I respect anyone who doesn't try to force their particular faith on other people, AND who is sincerely trying to make the world a better place.

I don't think you're a Catholic or a Christian at all. Either a Catholic or a Christian must believe in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit based on the Bible, not based on his personal experience alone. So from now on, don't call yourself a Catholic. A genuine Christian is one with the Holy Spirit and is a born-again Christian, that means he belongs to God. He believes everything in the Bible without any doubt. He doesn't respect the atheists or any other religions. You simply believe the existence of God but have no relation with God or Jesus. You're no better than the devil as he also knows the existence of God. However, Jesus said, "When you seek, you will find." I hope one day you will find. I'm a born-again Christian myself.

I feel exactly the same way. I was brought up to believe all the 'traditional' things in religion, I imagined God with a long white beard and never questioned what was written in the bible. A book I read when I was 17 changed everything, The Bloodline of the Holy Grail. It broke something and kind of gave me the strength to think further and tell myself that 'Ok, all that's written in the Bible may not be true'. I believe in God, I believe that Jesus was someone extraordinary who brought a lot to our world, but I also believe that catholisism, as we know it today, was completely created by men and it doesn't have any influence on me. I pray, I trust God. I don't care that Jesus was only human, that Mary was not a virgin. The important thing is to know that there is someone or something bigger than you, stronger than you and that you feel it protects you. The other details are just interesting in a historical point of view.

I do believe in God and Jesus and respect organised religion but choose not to be part of it. See, the thing with organised religion is that at one time it wasn't so organised. It was people with similar ideas, gathering together. More people agreed and that's how they get to be so organised. Once in an organisation, there is usually a hierarchy of power and that's where the flaws are, is in power. I also don't believe the Bible is flawed, per se, but it was translated into text by men who are flawed. I do believe the Bible was inspired by God but people have used its verses to further their own agendas. You can stil be Catholic and question some things about your religion, that's normal. God doesn't expect anyone to come to Him without a reason why!

I respect them as humans, but just because they don't believe in a God, doesn't make it so they all have common sense, I know a few atheist who don't know anything about being an atheist, evolution, or a real reason not to believe, or why there is no God. I believe in God, I have accepted Jesus, but organized religions do not make us believe, it is our choice, and your choice to believe in God, it is personal. A lot of catholics feel this way, I even did when I was catholic, maybe you should try a christian church I have and I love it!

However yes I respect atheist, the ones who stick to there beliefs and aren't just rude about, or demeaning toward me about it.

Well since you ask a sensible question, I will give a sensible answer. I do believe in a created god, which is nonetheless probably real. It is formed by the interaction of human thought in ways that science cannot yet measure. It needs no worship or acknowledgement, gives no rules and casts no blame. It is simply a conduit for connecting people to each other. I *feel* that even though it is more or less just a conduit it is comprised of the best of all of us and is peaceful and powerful.

I am quite prepared to say that I have no idea if this construct actually exists, and that I have a belief and absolutely no facts. It could even be nothing more than wishful thinking.

I call it god as a sort of shorthand, because it fits roughly in line with a lot of the classic concepts of what a god is. Science will eventually be able to measure it and no doubt give it a much spiffier name.

I too was raised a Roman Catholic. I gave up religion when I was old enough to understand it. However, I'm not an atheist but an agnostic. Atheists deny God's existence and try to convince everybody that it is so; agnostics do not believe in God as a supreme being but do not deny the possibility of His existence.I certainly do not believe we came from Adam and Eve and all that utter nonsense the Bible is full of. After all, according to the Bible, the earth is flat...

Yea, I consider myself NONE OF THE ABOVE. I am not a part of this world, even though I must interact with it. 'Organized religion' has been set up by 'men' for a reason, which is given in scripture, and for the time that has past. I'm looking to the time that is coming.
A word that I could, perhaps, take some credit for...
I love atheists, because if there were NO GOD, there would be no atheists either. Think about it. :-)

absolutely! I`m not hip to organized religion either. I was raised Southern Baptist & there was a lot of good to it , but there was a lot of internal politics involved in the church. There seemed to be a belief that the person with the most money was the closest to God. I respect atheists rights to believe as they see fit, I don`t try to push religion on anyone, but I really don`t like the smug, condescending attitudes. I may be a backwoods good ol boy, but i`m not an uneducated boob.

No ones ever gonna end faith! purely like no ones ever gonna end conflict! yet its no longer faith that reasons any conflict! Its non secular individuals who misread their faith of determination! Theres no way there might ever be any wars if the excellent international replaced into a hundred% non secular! It doesnt count what faith yet there are not any religions that (if used as directed) might reason a conflict! and that i completely trust you once you're saying "there is not any conflict without faith" is purely a stupid situation to assert! yet a good sillier situation than it is while human beings say (and im optimistic some fundis will say it right here) wars have been brought about via atheism! because of the fact they have no longer purely cuz somebody is an atheist doesnt propose that no longer beleiving in god is gonna dictate each situation that they do! Sorry i be attentive to what I reported didnt truly have lots to do which contain your question! yet I purely had to assert it besides =0)

If you are a Catholic and you don't accept the bible as the inspired and inerrant word of God than you are a heretic.

The Catholic church teaches that atheism is a sin, because the proof of God's existence is written in the heart of every man.

Atheism is not worthy of respect, and you are a misguided soul.
