Religion is like a prescription drug, It is prescribed to make you feel good and help you out when you can't usually help yourself. Then you meet other people who take the drug too, so it feels like you are part of a big club. Some people may even like to endorse the drug to others because they feel like it might help them like it helped you. But some people become addicts, They start ignoring reason and rationality and they get angry when you try to take the drug away from them. For some reason they get angry when other people don't take the same prescription as they do and they cling to the belief that the only pill to take is thier own. Then they get out of control and angry and won't listen to anyone, they are stuck in their addiction so much that they ignore the fact that people aren't trying to take their pills away, we are simply trying to get them to understand that maybe the prescription wasn't a good idea in the first place, but its ok to have it, Just keep it to yourself?

And stop trying to force your pills down other people's throats.

the opiate of the people .yes it is very similar. except opiates don't make people deny reality as in scientific thinking or cause social prejudice and single out groups to hate for no good reason or justify immoral killing.

When I first tried the green sticky in high school it was wonderful and I gathered myself with others who felt the same. We looked at the kids that weren't smoking as though they were missing out big time. Similarly, if a person is having a rough go of things, then turns to religion and sees great results, they're gonna love it and want more. They'll surround themselves with like-minded people and cast out those who are too blind to see the beauty they've found. So yea, I see the similarities there.

No.

The analogy presupposes either that there is no truth or that there is no religion that is true. Since the study of religion is by definition a search for truth, and since the holding of religious faith is an acknowledgment of a certain set of truths, an analogy that doesn't incorporate a belief in absolute truth is not apt.

Sure... It's a tad on the simple side but isn't that the whole idea of an analogy? Here's another:
