No, that does not make you an atheist. In fact, I believe that evolution did occur and also the creation and I am a very ardent believer in my faith.

A lot of science frowns on religion because it seems "out there" "weird" or just wrong. Science is about facts stemming from experiments, but cannot accept the fact that some questions cannot be answered. For example, the existence of God cannot be proved scientifically. Some other questions deal with the stretches beyond the universe? Are there other lifeforms on other planets? It is not to say that the questions will never be answered, but we have a limited capacity and ability. To say there is no proof for the existence of Jesus or God is actually quite narrow-minded. Just because we don't have the proof now doesn't mean the proof won't come later. When scientists first asked what perpetuates life, they had no idea it was DNA. Think of all knowledge as a giant jigsaw puzzle. Mankind has only filled in a couple pieces. If a piece doesn't fit, you do not throw it away, but you set it aside and wait for more pieces to come.

Religious people discount science a lot of times because they do not understand it and refuse to understand it. It is difficult to grasp DNA and how it works. It is also rather tough to grasp evolution because most people don't see it or recognize it everyday.

I hope that helps!

If the creator of the universe really is omnipotent, why do people have a hard time believing that evolution is the mechanism by which S/He created the beings on this planet? And why can't the 7 days be millions of years long? Being human means being made in the image of the Creator, i.e. with the capability of unraveling the laws of science. Plenty of religious people are totally comfortable believing in scientific explanations for natural phenomena. It's just the ones with the big mouths and small brains that we hear from most often.

But I believe in God and science, And always got strait A;s on the subject. Are you able to faithfully study and observe a THEORY? Define your term! NOW I will tell YOU why I reject evolution! Evolution says CHANCE, MAYBE, SOMEHOW, MIGHT HAVE, and on, and on! Always guessing and LACKING FACTS yet declareing it to be so! AND everything is NOT related to culture either! Did you know that men had beliefs before culture? YES I did take into account science/evolution! You should have wathced "THE UNIVERSE" on the discovery channel, tues, PM. you may have learned a lot.And since I got to hear the verws of some of our GREATEST scientists I was NOT surprised to heear them use the term CREATION! Guys like Einstien,Newton,Copernicus,Tyco,Hoyle Keppler and more! and then....theres YOU

As an agnostic I have never seen the contradictions between science and creativity. I consider the possibility that Cosmic Consciousness ("god") might create through the Big Bang and Evolution. The problem arises in the religious community due to their requirement to believe the Bible literally; thus, creation must have transpired as related in Genesis, and to question that version is to incite the wrath of God!

All the rational evidence suggests evolution is real but the exact how and why is theoretical which means
{Of, relating to, or based on theory.}
Theory means
{a coherent group of general propositions used as principles of explanation for a class of phenomena}
Which means the there is room for expansion as newer discoveries are made. Stephen Jay Gould and Richard Dawkins have just recently updated Darwin.
Evolution theory itself evolves over time.
Creationism is set in stone and has no room for speculation.
God may or may not be involved (Darwin thought God was Dawkins thinks God wasn't) But there is room for God in Evolution theory while there's no room for evolution in creationism. I side with Evolution.

Fair enough. Since you're smart and since you take science/evolution into account perhaps you can tell us what the first living cell evolved from. Self-replicating molecules is the usual answer from evolutionists but how do you know for sure? Has anybody seen a living cell that didn't come from another living cell? Has anybody proven that it's possible?

Still think evolution is not a theory?

No. Evolution is a theory, just like gravity and numbers. To become a scientific theory a hypothesis has to be supported by facts. What is NOT a theory is any psuedo-science such as Creationism or Intelligent Design, for they have no evidence to support it scientifically.

Evolution has NOTHING to do with religion, or religious beliefs. Evolution is science. There's a very big difference. It only seems to have something to do with religion because some religious people try to MAKE it about religion.

You do not need to be atheist to "believe" in evolution any more than you need to be atheist to "believe" in gravity.

It is possible to be a Christian and also believe in evolution if you also belive that the Bible is allegorical and not a literal account of history and of the Christian God's teachings.

You could also be a non-Christian, believe in evolution and in a creator-god or gods who set the universe up to include evolution, for example.

Or you could be an atheist.

But you can believe in evolution and not be an atheist.

Well Evolution IS a Theory no matter what you think. It is a Theory because the scientific community has agreed it is.

You don't have to believe it...but you do not possess the power to override it's status
