I'm just curious, since this was considered a sin for almost the first 1800 years of Christian history.

If a society would ever stop believing in the bible, would you be afraid that the people would also stop following it's moral commandments?

Christians why do good godly people suffer who love God and love thier families, a person my husband and I know is very ill and if a miracle does not happen he will pass away. Two people who I love with all my heart I come to find out have cancer and they are such wonderful people. Why do good people suffer and the wicked seem to get away with everything and no ills befall them? It just hurts me so much that good godly people are suffering when they invest thier lives in thier familys.

I would ask that I would recieve no sarcasm or smart remarks but this is a question both my husband and I ask. What is your take on good people suffering?

The only way I can figure this one out is like this, for all the Christians who live by God and Jesus, those who claim they do not judge others, how can you say that being a homosexual is giving in to sin and it comes as a choice, do theese Christians have the same erges as a homosexuals do but they have Gods power to fight them off? Other wise how do they know this? Do they themselves refuse the feelings they feel towards the same sex? How can a Christian say no they dont share the same feelings as a homosexual and then make a judgement on that person? Also do all Christians have homosexual erges but not give in to them?

Every thing that has ever been claimed as a miracle or an answered prayer is ALWAYS a I-said-it-so-believe-it scenario, can be explained with math and science or common sense. But why is it not ever tangible, always intangible? He supposedly performs thousands of miracles every day, but not one of them can be proven without pure faith.

As far as I have been able to find, Catholics and Protestants both debunk Dan Brown's book "The Da Vinci Code".

I haven't read the book, just so you know, so please give me as much detail as you can about why the book goes against your Catholic or Protestant church doctrines.

BESIDES the "Jesus and Mary were never married" thing, I mean. This is really the only premise of the book I've heard cited as an example of why the book is so flawed.

Surely there must be other reasons??? Other doctrines that the book goes against according to the Catholic and Protestant churches?

Someone very close to me died today, and what went on at the hospital has me really wondering about what I should do at his funeral. I'm an atheist, and barely managed to bite my tongue when the hospital's chaplain came and said prayers to his loving god shortly after my loved one's death. (If this "loving god" were real, I would feel nothing but hatred and rage for it.) But, I also wondered if I was being disrespectful to his memory by not at least 'going through the motions', knowing full well that he still believed. (We just talked about this no more than 6 weeks or so ago.) Whatever the case with that, it's done and over now and I can't change it. But, what I'm worried about is his funeral. Should I, in respect to his beliefs, join in praying? Or should I just maintain a respectful silence? I'm at a complete loss (probably because I'm still in shock, I think) and would really, really appreciate advice from atheists and theists alike. My sincere thanks in advance.

Please read before answering.

(Believers), if you had to take it by law, would you?
what do you think you'd do?

(Non- believers) even though you think the Bible is bunk & etc..
if by law you had to take a mark or chip..whatever, to buy and sell would you?
or would you think it was just a fluke that the bible in Revelations prophesied it?

Some people think that there are angels among us. Some believe we all have guardian angels.

Have you ever seen evidence that there are indeed Angels interacting with humans?

Have you ever seen or heard anything that coould only mean that angels are involved in the lives of humans?

In the history of this planet, there are 4,200 different identified religions, god's and other supreme beings. The odds that YOURS is correct?

1 / 4,200 = 0.000238095238

Your odds are better at getting audited by the IRS and then slipping, falling and dying in the shower.

How can you be so sure that YOUR religion is right when everyone else on the planet says YOURS is wrong and THEIR'S is right? If you were born Muslim, that would be your belief, if you were born Jewish, that would be your belief, if your born Myan 2000 years ago, that would be your belief. So just because you were born into a particular religion, that automatically make you right and every else is wrong? Isn't that a bit arrogant?

So how do you justify being right with the odds of 0.000238095238????

I got this explanation from someone:

"Your Born with a Messed Up Spirit (your born Lost)
Then, you Accept Jesus and Jesus Recreates (Saves) your Spirit
Now you are a Child of GOD
Now you keep on Sinning.
But, you are a Child of GOD that is Sinning, not a Sinner sinning.
The World calls sinners---the ones that go to Hell.
Children of GOD are NOT going to Hell, but, they can Still Sin like Hell!!!"

This sounds like a clique to me, like a social club where discrimination is exercised mostly against "outsiders", simply for the reason that they are not "part of the club". It doesn't sound like it has much to do with actual conduct of the followers, but more to do with just being a "member". So the same actions that are considered "sinful" and horrible when an outsider does them are condoned when done by a member. They still "crack down" on their members, but the members are granted much more leeway.
