I am thinking of starting my own church (because there isn't one where I live) and wondered what drove people to worship and what determines if a religion or church is successful?

The matter is addressed at some length in the reference. Hints: the must successful startups have cribbed a lot of material from existing religions. (Islam and Mormonism are classic examples.)

I have been spreading God's word for years now, and He will richly bless you if you don't go about dividing (starting your "own" church), rather plant a branch of His Church.

To do so you must be both spiritually qualified (have this vocation as a calling from God) and trained (you should consider doing a course or Theology programme with one of the established Churches closest to you).

Do start with something like a Bible study or prayer meeting, it can be in someones home, and you can choose a different home every week till you have a strong group of Christians ready to commit to the next step: having a Church in your area.

God bless you in your ministry,
Andrew

What drives people to worship is LOVE for our Creator. Enjoy a good relationship with your Heavenly Father and do not focus too much on religion.

I think that the desire to worship comes from an awe of the One you are worshipping. Give it prayer. Prayer is one of the most important things. GL!

Fear of the unknown... that being death and what happens afterward... and where we came from. People NEED something to believe in, no matter how irrational.

Guilt, shame, fear. Exploit those and you'll do fine.
