this is called a vow; and whenever possible, it should be kept:

"When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.

Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay." - Ecclesiastes 5:4,5

Not a thing happens, dear heart. Earth goes on spinning towards the time of its inevitable end, several million years from now, and flowering trees go on flowering and birds go on singing and some of humankind goes on being greedy and violent and filled with ignorance and hatred. And other human beings go on creating, making beauty hither and yon, and caring for their children, their spouses, their aging parents. And other human beings sing, or dance, or act upon the stage, or create, design, direct, bring life to art. All that happens but the gods of today or yesterday hold no part in any of it. One really would not expect them to. They do not exist--not today, not tomorrow, not ever and ever and ever. A myth is what they are, a fantasy, a fairytale.

It will affect you in some way because you put the energy into that promise with God and since you broke it and you care what God thinks you're gonna feel bad about it cause you betrayed something you believed in.

Ask God to forgive you and go on. He is in the forgiveness business and wants to have a personal relationship with you...just TALK to Him!! If it is about stopping a sin behavior just remember that once you ask for forgiveness you should try to not continue in that sin. This is the hard part but God will give you strength when you ask.

God knows our hearts!! He knows that we have good intentions. God is a forgiving God, so if we ask for forgiveness, and truly mean it with all our heart...then we are forgiven! We must repent though!! Repentance means that you don't do the same sin over again, at least knowingly and on purpose... as long as you do this, you will be fine! You are Saved as a Christian, but judgement will be placed upon you on Judgement Day if you don't repent!

Life is not about promises that you keep or not. There is nothing that you posses that God wants and nothing that you can do that God needs. God wants you to love Him the same way he loves you, that's all!

Repent and God will forgive you. Try to show Him you mean it by not breaking your promise again.

Then again.... as we're all sinners, you might sin again. It's okay to be a work in progress with God. As long as you're sincerely trying your best, that's all He can ask and you can do.

I fail too...

Do you mean that there is a defining punishment. I really don't think so. Did you forget that God forgives? What I am saying is that it would be personal, something between you and Him. If He wanted for you to learn from it, He would do do something to make you learn from it.

Ask him to forgive you and he will. I know i broke so many promises myself.God is in the business of loving us more than we love ourselves. We can only learn from our mistakes and try not to repeat them.
