I go to church on Sundays, and our church offers communion in the form of communion wafers. Other churches I have been to use matzo crackers or even bread. When I was little, I used to think the wafers were made of paper, because that's what they taste like!

I know that the wafers are supposed to represent "the Body of Christ," but I was wondering if anybody knew exactly what communion wafers are made of. If you think about it, there is probably a factory somewhere in America where they make communion wafers! So, any information on the ingredients or the make-up of communion wafers would be most helpful.

1 The story goes that an Arab named Khalid was tending his goats in the Kaffa region of southern Ethiopia, when he noticed his animals became livelier after eating a certain berry. He boiled the berries to make the first coffee. Certainly the first record of the drink is of beans exported from Ethiopia to Yemen where Sufis drank it to stay awake all night to pray on special occasions. By the late 15th century it had arrived in Mecca and Turkey from where it made its way to Venice in 1645. It was brought to England in 1650 by a Turk named Pasqua Rosee who opened the first coffee house in Lombard Street in London. The Arabic qahwa became the Turkish kahve then the Italian caffé and then English coffee.

2 The ancient Greeks thought our eyes emitted rays, like a laser, which enabled us to see. The first person to realise that light enters the eye, rather than leaving it, was the 10th-century Muslim mathematician, astronomer and physicist Ibn al-Haitham. www.1001inventions.com

Why does god have different names in different world-religions (aka Yahweh, Jehovah, Allah, etc.) while many
Archangels (e.g. Michael, Gabriel, etc.) have the same name in all of the above religions (and also the same function). If god, as he claims in all these religions is One, why does he opt for different names in scriptures, while there is no difference of naming for the Archangels in the same scriptures?

Why is it that the bulk of Christendom are filled with so much hate, always try to ram their religion down the throat of the Athiests and a total and utter hate for the Moslems, and they hide behind the curtain of "Jesus is love, he died for your sins"

And verses and verses are quated obscurley that does not befit the question, hey guys the Bible is a Eastern Book that is viewed through Greek and Roman glasses, which the West do not understand Eastern metaphors and simmiles, just like in the Old Testament and further in the Gospels.

The masses of Christians mis intrepret and use it against other nations of the world, kill maim, conquer divide and rule, that is the foot print of Christian teaching.

All I see in that religion is pure hate for other nations, before I get all those thumbs down just think about what has happend in the last 2000 years, how much blood has been spilt in the name of Jesus?

In Genesis God caused the flood because of great sin. After the Great flood God said it would never destroy man again. The Bible closes with Revalations, which is all about finall judgement and once again destroying the unsaved humans and the world because of sin.

I am a strong jew. But why is the bible so violent.

1.Exodus 31:15 .Those who break the Sabbath are to be executed. 31:14

Deuteronomy
2.Kill everyone who has religious beliefs that are different from your own. 17:2-7

3.Anyone who will not listen to a priest or a judge must be executed. 17:12-13

4.Kill those of other faiths. 12:30

5. If your brother, son, daughter, wife, or friend tries to get you to worship another god, "thou shalt surely kill him, thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death." 13:6-10

6. If you have a "stubborn and rebellious son," then you and the other men in your neighborhood "shall stone him with stones that he die." 21:18-21

7. If a man marries, then decides that he hates his wife, he can claim she wasn't a virgin when they were married. If her father can't produce the "tokens of her virginity" (bloody sheets), then the woman is to be stoned to death at her father's doorstep. 22:13-21

Someone please help.

Those who wrote the Bible obviously did not know or did not take into account the biological life sustaining requirements for 'Plants'. To have been flooded for such a long period of time with the combination of heavy salting from the oceans, it would have been impossible for much, if anything, to have survived. Nothing was said about Noah gathering up seeds and plants. No doubt, that would have overloaded his boat.

Jane Manning was an African-American woman from Nauvoo. In the Nauvoo pageant , the Mormon church shows her as so grateful to be taken care of by the Mormons. They did not show the part in church history where the family of Joseph Smith has her sealed to the family as a servant for eternity in a special ceremony allowed by the First Presidency of the church. (Black Saints in a White Church, pp. 40-41)

Do you think she is still glad the mormons took care of her, even now as, according to Mormonism, she will be the Smith family slave for eternity?

I was watching this movie called "School Ties" and one character was jewish in a high class christian school. I'm really wondering why they despised him. I'm 21, Catholic and I don't really see why they did that. It was so unreasonable. If you can please let me understand. Or do you know any sites that I could read about all that. Thanks.

Are the South Korean captives in Afghanistan being celebrated as Christian martyrs? Though the concept of martyrdom has fallen out of favor in recent Christian history, most people acknowledge that the church is built on the blood of martyrs. Islamic martyrdom is alive and well. Is this a chance for Christians to return to an old tradition, against an old enemy?

You know some people reject my love like no big deal, and I don't send them to hell and get to torment them over it,they get to go on with their lives,And I don't have too much of a problem with that,However if you reject God's love he seems to majorly over react,So the question I pose for you is tell me the difference between humanely love and God's love, and why is he so sensitive.I mean seriously, unless you happen to be sadistic, you wouldn't torment someone like an ex-lover for leaving you heartbroken, how can God justify this,I think it is inaccurate to say that God has only one emotion, being love,in the scripture it said God doesn't want other God's before him because he was a jealous God,I think it's safe to say God has a lust for power, ergo (followers on their knees),Greed (the offering plate aka tive),Pride, and apparently it's a sin for us to have it,so while he stands up (proudly) we are forced to kneel in adoration,It was said we were made in his likeness, and look at that, irony.

Pratt was killed by Hector McClean. Hector was still married to Eleanor when she became Pratt's 12th wife. (Blood of the Prophets)

To me this sounds like a husband trying to seek vengeance on a wife stealer- not like a man killing because he disliked Mormons.

There is a verse in the english translation of the Quran that has been mistranslated, as is the case with some other verses in the Quran. In Arabic, the word "daraba" used in Surah 4 is supposed to mean to separate, as in leave the home. This same word is used 5 other times in the Quran, and not once is it meant as physical harm. Need further proof? When the Prophet (PBUH) would become angry with his wives or they were not acting as Muslim women should, he never once harmed his wives. He would go to his own home for a month and leave them to think about what had happened. He did not threaten them, he did not say harsh words, he did not strike them. He did as that verse intructs. Furthermore, the Quran says men may not harm their wives and the Prophet (PBUH) spoke against men who beat women. What do you think of this fact? I know it happens, that can not be denied, but this happens everywhere. No matter the religion or country. How do you feel about this?

Should I repeat "Atheists are scumbags" 100 times or 1,000 to myself until it becomes embedded into my psyche?

Should I make nasty blanket statements about all atheists and then claim to be quite a reasonable, enlightened person?

Should I namecall and belittle and deride, all the while accusing them of and criticizing them for the same exact behavior?

Should I play victim and rail about the big bad nonbelievers while attempting to grind nonbelievers into the ground?

I have been raised in a Christian household, and I have this feeling that it is a sin to confront people. I don't want to hurt their feelings, but at the same time I don't want to hurt. Is it ok to confront people? Could you please tell me how to go along confronting someone when I want to be honest with them? Thank you.

I would like to hear of examples that people have experienced where Evangelicals or Fundementalists have twisted the bible to a ridiculas point.

It is very clear that the bible was intended to be interpreted in light of the Traditions that the early disciples passed down through the generations and other less authoritative texts.

Because Pastors interpret the bible based on their own experience and their "flock" do the same is that why there are 37,000 different protestant denominations out there all believing that they are the single peope who have interpreted the bible right.

When evangelicals say people should read the bible for themselves are they inviting them to create another disunified Church.

I am sure this isint what Jesus wanted. However I would really like to hear of examples where they have taken verses out of context and why you think they are in error in their interprertation.

Maybe it was the coffee!

So what? How did it happen, and if you tell me that it was natural selection, then tell me why nature is so selective. Is that just the way it is? Nature is some how so smart that it somehow developed the most basic life-form just by pure unbelievably dumb luck? Then it just started selecting what was good and what was bad? And where did the planet come from in the first place? Oh, it just happened to land in JUST the right spot exactly for life to form, after some sort of explosion or something? And where did you the universe come from? When I ask these questions, you say "evolution has nothing to do with origins, blah blah..."- yeah, exactly.

So stop trying to use it to assault people who believe in God. Evolution doesn't prove or disprove anything with regards to God or religion.

Even Darwin was a deist.
