Pratt was killed by Hector McClean. Hector was still married to Eleanor when she became Pratt's 12th wife. (Blood of the Prophets)

To me this sounds like a husband trying to seek vengeance on a wife stealer- not like a man killing because he disliked Mormons.

It has nothing to do with why he died and everything to do with his dying words -

In May 1857, shortly after his 50th birthday, Parley was murdered outside the small town of Van Buren, Arkansas.

As he lay dying, Parley testified to those who had come to help: “I die a firm believer in the Gospel of Jesus Christ as revealed through the Prophet Joseph Smith. … I know that the Gospel is true and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of the living God, I am dying a martyr to the faith.”

Not everybody thinks about stuff like this a whole lot. Actually, the whole story reminds me of Early Bob Dylan. "The Lonesome Death of Parley Pratt"...how did he miss this one?

I'm not really sure, it is true that he married a woman that already had legally married someone else. Maybe it is more about the things he did during his life (which were extensive) than the facts surrounding his death? I assume this came up because he is an ancestor of Mitt Romney?
