Why does god have different names in different world-religions (aka Yahweh, Jehovah, Allah, etc.) while many
Archangels (e.g. Michael, Gabriel, etc.) have the same name in all of the above religions (and also the same function). If god, as he claims in all these religions is One, why does he opt for different names in scriptures, while there is no difference of naming for the Archangels in the same scriptures?

e.g. "Gabriel" and "Jab-ra-eel" are merely different pronunciations of the same name, But "Yehovah" and "Allah" are not.

To Achtung: I am not really asking if Gabriel is an arch-angel or just another angel. The point is: Why are angel names the same in Judaism, Christianity and Islam, while god has various names. And, Allah, FYI, just as Jehovah, IS gods name in Islam.

The reason I do care about names is because they have immense importance in characterizing spiritual forces.

Possibly i'm confused and you can set me straight :)..... but i thought that the angels did have different names.....

1) Within Islam God is given many names in order to show his importance which was an idea of arab culture. This is also why the Day of Judgment is given many names in the Qur'an.... but Allah is given the longest list of names in order to show His importance

2) In Islam i've always heard the angel Gabriel.... called Jibreel (forgive my spelling).... It is the same as Allah and God..... only the same word in two languages. And i believe the angel called Israfeel in Islam is the angel Rafael in Christianity......

Peace and Blessings,
Sakina

PS i've just begun a comparison study of the angels in the three major monotheistic faiths... so feel free to email me if you'd like to see some of the information

The premise of this question is false.

The bible teaches that Almighty God the Father has exactly ONE personal name: "הוהי". These Hebrew characters are generally transliterated into English as "YHWH". In practice, "Yahweh" is the Hebrew pronunciation and "Jehovah" is the English translation of that one Divine Name ("הוהי" or "YHWH"). By contrast, "Allah" is certainly NOT a proper name, but merely a word which means "the [one] god".

Interestingly, this questioner continues another misconception, the idea that Gabriel is an archangel. Nowhere is that idea found in the Scriptures, but merely in post-biblical human tradition. The bible mentions only one "archangel" or "chief of the angels" and that is Michael.

(Jude 9) Michael the archangel had a difference with the Devil

Good question. I have no idea, maybe these two names were universally recognized. Gabriel is said to have flown swiftly to Daniel, for he was dearly loved. I take it that Gabriel flew back in time to reasure Daniel that things were under control. Then Gabriel traversed time again to help the Prince Michael do battle with the king of Persia I think.
So this means that at the time Daniel lived in, the economy of the new "heaven" was already in operation.

I find it intriguing that "Sin" is a Phoenician 'god'.
