why do you say That I dont understand and that I have not looked into your reasons. I was svaed 10 years ago. when my fiancee died, I was very upset needless to say, my pastor told me he was in Hell. I have done nothing the last few years but study your beliefs and other religions. I wanted answeres, I wanted to know why God would send a good man to hell. and what is the best way to learn? its to live it. And I did, I even became a psychic for awhile, to learn and understand why they believe what they believe. I did a very good Job at it to. but you know what I have found out in all my study? That God Is real, he does excist, I still have questions, I still study, but there is no doubt that God is real and he loves every one of us. how many of you have really lived the life in the other people shoes to learn why they believe the way they do? or do you just read a book and choose your beliefs that way?

I am about to get offline to read a book called "The Purpose Drived Life" By Rick Warren. What on earth am I here for?

Why do you believe you are here on earth? What is your purpose?

Peter Berkowitz wrote this piece called 'The New New Atheism' - good article from my rather biased perspective.

Isn't atheism developing into a dogma?

Wanted to ask something so I could show off my new name - what do you think JP? I know the R&S style council leadership, headed by Jack B, will not approve, which makes me sad.

I visualize the energy of my resentment leaving my body and going out into the universe. For forgiveness, I have been visualizing the person in question across from me with energy streaming between us. I picture white light severing that energy as I tell them I forgive them. Then to some (that I have some understanding of) I send love energy from my heart chakra to them. Please share yours or feel free to use mine!

Christianity says that only those who believe in jesus are pure while the rest are sinned. Similar is the saying in Islam with allah. Then why is it that Jesus and Allah allow births in the other religions in the first place and thus giving rise to sinners. If he , the god wants other people to convert to his religion and follow him and him alone, then why does the all powerful he allows people to be born in other religions.

You know - do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Who came up with that first, anyway?

If you love someone, does that mean you have to absolutely adore every aspect about them? (including smelly feet, annoying habits, etc...)

Than why is it so hard to accept the concept that Christians love everyone, but not nessesarily approve of & adore certain behaviors they exhibit?

You have to wonder why the media only goes against Christian athletes. If Michael Vick was not a Christian would this even be an issue?

I want my family to be raised with knowing of God and the Bible, but we don't go to church or read the bible. My children can't even read though and are only 9 months and 3 but I want to be a better Christian. I don't know ANYTHING about Christianity really. I was raised muslim and not even really muslim, we never did anything to practise the religion. My mom just mentioned God a few times in our childhood, but we were just raised to be good people.

I want to know Christianity and have it help me through the stressful times I am going through, with being a SAHM and financial pressure, marriage, etc, you know, life.

I started reading a children's Bible, is that good enough. I need easy quick reading because I have to be on the run and clean and all that for the kids and just running the house.

So what do I do now, what steps do I take. Should I just read the Bible, is that enough? Don't know of any Christian churches - they are all a religion like Bapt, Luth, Catholic.

1. Evolution does NOT talk about the origin of the universe.

2. Evolution does NOT talk about the origin of life, it talks about how lifeforms change over a long period of time, sometimes into new species.

3. Evolution ONLY deals with already living things, it does NOT, in any way, deal with anything dead or non-living (like rocks).

4. Evolution does NOT say that mankind came from monkeys, it says that monkeys, apes, and mankind came from a common ancestor.

5. Evolution is not random.

6. Evolution does not happen by "chance".

7. Evolution did not happen by accident.

8. Evolution is simply not intelligence driven, but driven by environmental pressures.

If you can't understand ALL of those, how about understanding just ONE of those points?

9. Complexity is NOT an argument against Evolution, in fact, it supports Evolution.

10. Ill education, and inability to understand it, is NOT an argument against Evolution, its an argument against YOU.

Let me tell you first that i am an European and let me explain Europeans through history: women look for a reason to live for, men look for a reason to die for. Now, if my country was invaded, then i would join the resistance. See, the only song that bring tears to my eyes is the song of the partisans of the french resistance. But if my country was the invader, then i would tell our politicians to go fight themself since they brought us into that bloody mess. There is not better cause to die for than our lord Jesus. Tell me, lord, what is your next battle, let me pick up your ax and raise it high above my head, let me be your knight, guardian of the temple and the Holy blood, who fights with words instead of swords. Make of me a Templar and i shall seek revenge for the fallen of our brotherhood seven hundred years ago.

The first principle of Christian philosophy is that reality truly exists in objects we can sense, and that this realty is intelligible. This is different from (1) phenomenalism, which treats the appearance of things as the last end of philosophy; (2) psychologism, or a philosophy of perception through self (viz. "reality is a mere projection of my consciousness").

It is really a philosophy of essence. In an analogy I recently used in a letter, I compared this to a little girl who tastes ice cream, knowing through her sense the coldness and sweetness of it.

She now knows the "intelligible reality" of coldness and sweetness, and her intellect understands immediately their opposition to their opposites, an opposition expressed by the principle of contradiction: cold is not warm, sweet is not sour.

This applies to being as well: Being is not non-being. Fundamental to useful dialog is a way of approaching reality. Do you, as atheists, find the above an agreeable way to begin?

Definition: secularism n. Religious skepticism or indifference. The view that religious considerations should be excluded from civil affairs or public education.

In France (which is the country I'm most familiar with) it is against the constitution to mix religous and political affairs.

School children are NOT allowed to wear religous symbols to school or they will be expelled (these symbols include the crucifix, the burka, the Star of David, the bible, ... ).
The belief is that this helps to avoid create divisions.

I'm Catholic but I approve the idea of a secular state.
However, I can't say that immigrant intergration in France is one big success story (despite our secular policy).

British school children ARE permitted to wear religous symbols.
However, they also have major immigrant intergration problems.

So what's the solution ?

To be secular, or not to be secular ? I think I'm divided on this one. ;)

I'm interested to hear your thoughts.

Or is it all just frozen in a book and God never changes his mind. This seems entirely unreasonable that thousands of years ago God said well folks this is all I have to say and here's a manual.
I am a Buddhist and feel that all things both sentient and other are flexible. Do you think God(s) has an open mind? Why doesn't he/she/they? I'm interested in everyone's thoughts. Namaste

How can you know for sure if you are saved? Consider 1 John 5:11-13 (NLT): "And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. So whoever has God's Son has life; whoever does not have his Son does not have life. I write this to you who believe in the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life." Who is it that has the Son? Those who have believed in Him and accepted Him (John 1:12). If you have Jesus, you have life. Eternal life. Not temporary, but eternal. All you have to do is accept Jesus in your life and you will be saved. You will be in his presence for all eternity! What a GLORIOUS prospect!

what is your religion? What and how do you believe? I have no religion which is my choice, the reason is I am a believer or a follower of Christ Jesus. I believe in the Word and believe it is God's Word for us today..I believe that many not all religions have put to much restrictions on members, I believe that no one is prefect but some religions seems to expect it. God is the only One who can make anyone prefect..I was just wondering what others thoughts were. No trying to cause a any problems, just asking.

The Sumerian Creation story is VERY similar to the OT. I am not stating that either is right or wrong, that isn't the point to this question. I will even hypothetically say God always existed and so did his word just for the sake of arguement here. BUT the fact is that God didn't "give" those words to man until much later then the Babylonians were around. So how on earth did they "steal" stories from a book that hadn't been written yet?
