I want my family to be raised with knowing of God and the Bible, but we don't go to church or read the bible. My children can't even read though and are only 9 months and 3 but I want to be a better Christian. I don't know ANYTHING about Christianity really. I was raised muslim and not even really muslim, we never did anything to practise the religion. My mom just mentioned God a few times in our childhood, but we were just raised to be good people.

I want to know Christianity and have it help me through the stressful times I am going through, with being a SAHM and financial pressure, marriage, etc, you know, life.

I started reading a children's Bible, is that good enough. I need easy quick reading because I have to be on the run and clean and all that for the kids and just running the house.

So what do I do now, what steps do I take. Should I just read the Bible, is that enough? Don't know of any Christian churches - they are all a religion like Bapt, Luth, Catholic.

We've only been here for two years and really don't have many friends so we are not familiar with a church. Also, my husband is Christian and was all his life but was raised in California so he knows of churches there not here.

Greetings. God is calling you and you are being receptive. That is indeed the first step. Many people have already given you some good advice so I won't post their points again. You are probably feeling a little lost with so many choices about bibles and churches. This is what I would recommend, since it worked for me.

1. Pray to Jesus and thank Him for your blessings. Ask Him for His divine love and guidance. Feel that you are going to Him on your own will and desire His grace.

2. Acquire a bible with some some good notes about history and Christian beliefs. I would recommend the Oxford Bible because it contains all the books that Catholics, Orthodox, and Protestants use.

3. Just reading the bible may not be enough. You will need to ponder and live the Christian faith. Try to find a group to discuss the bible and aspects of Christianity with. The internet would be a good place to start until you find a church in your community. Please note that 2 Peter 1:20-21 states that the bible is not to be interpreted privately.

4. Do not let others opinions push you to one form of Christianity or another. Read the bible and learn about all the denominations and their histories. Go and attend their services and decide which one preaches the most about love and gets you to fall in love with our Savior.

5. Pray and discuss things with your family.

I personally believe the Roman Catholic Church is the one and only Church established by Jesus Christ. However, I came to that conclusion after a lot of soul-searching, praying, research, and thought. Experience has shown me that there are many other Christians who find spiritual fulfillment in other churches. As long as Christ is the center of worship and praise, we should see each other as brothers and sisters regardless of denomination.

Trust in God and He will lead you to where you need to be. May God bless you and your family. Please feel free to send me a message if you have any questions.

To truly become a Christian you must believe in your heart and confess Romans Chapter 10, verses 9 & 10 (Romans 10:9&10).

First and foremost, pray to GOD for guidance. To help you in your endeavors so that you can get on the path, you'll need to research the Bible. I'm a parent of twin eight month old boys, so I can relate to your situation.

If you have time (between naps or whatever), I have found a couple of quick links to the Bible online as well as an online concordance. You'll need the concordance so that you can accurately translate the scriptures.

Study The New Testament to study the life of Jesus, and his Disciples. Use the Old Testament for background information. If you ask, GOD will show you the way.

I am a Non-Denominational Christian. My faith is solely based on accurate research of the Bible. Good luck and GOD Bless.

You are off to a good start, reading a children's Bible. But you should really get a good study Bible. Either a King James or a New King James version. A study Bible is great because it also has Scripture notes, references, etc.
The first thing you need to do is pray to God, and ask Him to help you. You don't say, but do you believe in Jesus Christ? That He is God's Son and that He died on the cross that our sins can be forgiven if we ask Him? Read the Bible to learn about Him. And a good church IS also very important. Baptist, Lutheran, Catholic ARE Christian churches. There are also many other Christian denominations.
If you'd like to, you can e-mail me.

Find a Christian based Church and join. They will be glad to accept you and you could also join a womens Christian group which can help you during get through hard times, support you, and you can make new friends. Your 3 year can go to the childrens service and Sunday school. I recommend joining a Church of Protestant denomination because it is pretty straight forward about the teachings from the Bible.

There are already many good answers to your question. I'm only posting to further encourage you to go the next step. The only way you come to God is through Jesus. You do not practice Christianity, rather you live it. Repent and believe are the first steps. And remember this over everything else, you do not change yourself, God changes you. That is the biggest difference between knowing God rather than being religious. Sure fire way to failure and disillusionment is being religious. Our goodness comes only through what Jesus did.

So, you must get into Gods word. But I'd suggest a good church first so that you get get instruction on what to do next. They'll help you most. This is where sincerity in your decision comes in. Do you have time for God? If not, then get ready for disappointment in this walk. It's the motivation of your heart that God is looking at. Not what you call yourself.

Being a Christian means you believe in Jesus as your Savior and obey Him and do what He commands. You should read the Bible to learn what God expects of you. If you don't want to go to a church, which I would recommend, then I would suggest meeting with a group of mature Christians, who can help to teach you and pray for you as you live your faith. It's important to have those ppl there to support you.

As for a Bible, a children's Bible may be ok to start with, but you really should get the full one. It has much more detail and important information. Again, meeting with Christians in a Bible study can help you understand it and apply it to your life.

You have already taken the biggest step--you have asked Christ into your life. Christianity is not so much about what church you attend or how much of the Bible you have read. It is more about the way you live your life, how you raise your children and how you treat your neighbor. It's about trusting in God and knowing that he will never abandon you.
When you are ready and the time is right, God will lead you to the right church. You will know when you get there that it is right for you. You will feel a sense of "coming home", as if you have been lost and wandering and finally found what you have been searching for.
As for praying, it doesn't have to be on your knees or with some fancy words. God knows you. He knows how you think, how you feel, and how you speak. It's okay to talk to him in your own words, in your own way. Busy mothers like you and I have relied on "breath prayers" for years. It's simply a prayer you can say in one breath, such as, "Lord, keep us safe on our journey". Quick, simple, and important when heading out the door with the children to run errands. It's not about time, it's about what's in your heart.
God bless you on your journey with our Lord.

I think it's a great start to read a children's Bible. You can read it to your children also to introduce them. Does your husband go to church? If so, do you go with him? You should also pray to God and ask for His guidance. Let Him know that you want to believe! Do you believe in Jesus as The Christ? He came to save us all and He will return again. He suffered, died and rose from the dead so that we all have a chance of eternal life with God. He is our Lord and Savior!

What church you go to is not as important as what you believe, so give them a try until you find one that feels right to you. I do believe you should be baptized when you are ready and yes you should read the Holy Bible, even just a little everyday. Ask your husband to help you because this is important and will bring you great joy.

God Bless.

I think Protestant Churches are the best. Personally, I don't mind the praying to saints or the communion stuff in Catholicism, but I hate Purgatory and the deadly sins. I want to inform you that there is no hell. Read the first source for more info, but I can summarize it like this: hell is a mistranslation. You are trying, so you're doing a good job, and you can be happy. I would like to recommend a book called Dangerous Wonder by Mike Yaconelli. I'll post some good Bible verses under sources. Lastly, just love God. He's amazing.
