Most people think religion will come to an end when everyone has converted to Atheism. It would seem to make sense. But if it happened wouldn’t the converts still secretly have some residual religious feelings?

If however everyone converted to Christianity religion would ultimately go through the Easter Island style faith crises and religion could take a permanent death from disillusionment. I mean it’s been 2000 years waiting for the second coming. If everyone were converted how long would we continue to wait before we figured out that it isn’t going to happen?

Personally I couldn’t force myself to believe in a “Literal” god, but it could get religion back on track, doing what it should do, providing celebrations and rituals for the stages of our lives and promoting well being, rather then being self serving and divisive. I’m sure such an idealized notion of religion is naïve but one can hope.

What say you?

Here it says that Brigham, 2nd President of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints was divorced and separated from 12 of his 51 women and Henry VIII only had 6 wives. But they both started churches so that they could have more women.

It's amazing everything these men had in common and everything they did in their power to have more women.

I cannot answer this question from my eight year old grandson.

He and his six friends have decided that they are not religious because...

If there was nothing in the beginning, how could God create himself?

Some question from an 8 year old!

I want to know the best venue for apologizing to Mormons. My parents were Christians and I know how Mormons view Christians. I want to make it clear however, that my family never said anything bias against Mormons but they did not practice polygamy.

The good news is that I want to become a Mormon and already have my wives picked out. How can I speak to some Mormon missionaries about the conversion process (especially female missionaries)?

Thanks for your help! Many Celestial Greetings!

You can never find a Christian who has acquired this valuable knowledge, this saving knowledge, by any process but the everlasting and all-sufficient "people say."
-- Mark Twain, Autobiography

One of the proofs of the immortality of the soul is that myriads have believed in it. They have also believed the world was flat.

The gods offer no rewards for intellect. There was never one yet that showed any interest in it.

God's inhumanity to man makes countless thousands mourn.

Irreverence is another person's disrespect to your god; there isn't any word that tells what your disrespect to his god is.

We are together and I am holding you in my arms.
I turn my head to look at you as we lay under the stars.
How beautiful and peaceful on my shoulder you lean,
This would have been a perfect night,
if only it wasnt a dream

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

no hell...

peace... forever...

eternal love...

and all you have to do is... nothing.

like the monk who set himself on fire. and sat. burning. all to protest againts the vietnam war.

so at peace with themselves.
I could settle as an atheist in those countries.
open to creation stories, because christianity is flawed because it tries to explain our coming to existance.

foolish of them, because we have discovered this long ago.

Yet here I am and thought what the heck I'll run a search for it on google images. This is the first hit I get.

All religions think they have the "Truth"- that they alone can explain the way things are correctly.

Obviously they can't all be right.

So none really is more right than the others.

No matter what you believe there's a good chance your wrong.

So isn't it good to be openminded- wouldn't you have a better chance of finding some "truth"

And for those that think they already have the "truth" does that make you feel better about things, and if so, why?

Does god instantly know if someone is good or bad. If god does have to think about decisions does that make god not all knowing? If god doesn't have to think about things than how can god really be making insightful decisions? Doesn't the act of making a good decision involve thinking? When god makes a decision does that make it the right decision or are all of god's decisions correct even before god makes them?

My husband and I have been fighting and he said that he doesn't think he loves me anymore about three weeks ago. Since then nothing has really changed, so we're doing a trial separation for the week. He's going to be staying at his parents for the week while they're gone to the beach and I'm going to stay here at home with our nine month old son and we're not going to have any contact at all. I'm wondering.. was this a good idea? I've just run out of ideas and I love him so much. I just want him to realize what it is he'll be giving up if he decides to leave, and hopefully miss me and come home and everything will be okay. I've been torn up for three weeks and I'm about to break. I need some idea of whats going to happen yet he refuses to discuss anything with me. He just wants to ignore it, but how is that helping? I'm scared that this was a bad idea and that he might realize he's happier without us.. what do you think?
