Anytime you drink, you may open a door you do not want to open, and will have a hard time closing. 85% of date rape involves alcohol/drugs. Almost all domistic violence has drinking/drug involvement.
Why does one need to drink? If you can't enjoy life sober, then you have a problem. Everyone who has drank will admit they have been drunk at least once. Almost everyone who drinks, if they are truthful, will admit they have driven under the influence. Do you really need the glass of wine with dinner? Does watching a football game require drinking beer to enjoy the game?
Wish you luck. Be careful.

If a person CANNOT just drink a little alcohol, they should NEVER drink it at all. If a person can drink a little alcohol, not get drunk and doesn't feel like they need to drink anymore, then it's o.k. sometimes.
If you do drink to drunkenness, you really, really should be away from everyone so that you do not hurt people. That includes social situations, like driving.
I personally don't like to drink alcohol, even though I have drank a little alcohol before a long time ago although, it was not to drunkenness.
I can't really explain why Jesus made more wine for everyone at the wedding... maybe there were really alot of people there and not enough to go around.
I think it's also a story about how God will give you what you ask for many times, so that you can see what you can handle and see if something is good or bad for you, individually. Not everything is immediately obvious concerning these types of things.

Atlanta: Yes; you are correct - Jesus DID make wine (not grape juice) at the Jewish wedding He was at, from water (His first miracle). Some say , that Christ made "grape juice" but the original Greek word for the word wine is "winos" and it means wine with alcohol NOT "grape juice".
The problem with "religion" is it is based in "legalism" (do's & dont's) and this is not what God had in mind for Christians !
The religious leaders of Jesus's days namely, the doctors of the law [Bible], were the self-righteous, Pharasees - the one's who conspired to murder Jesus, along with the Sanheddrin [Jewish priests]. These Pharasees called Jesus a "wine-bibber" [drunk] because He drank with prostitutes, and tax collectors - the then, considered, "low-life".
The key to anything particularily alcohol, wine in this case, is MODERATION. Of course, alcoholics have to abstain [not drink] from alcohol due to the temptation of the disease to become drunken and stay that way.
This is a great question, and I hope that I supplied you enough information. Good luck to you.

I don't believe the Bible teaches that having a drink is sin--however, it does teach that getting drunk is sin. I think if people have a problem with self-control, it may not be smart to have that first drink though.
Some churches teach that when Jesus turned water into wine, that it was not fermented. There is no Scriptural basis for this teaching that I've found.
"For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He hath a devil.' The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners.' But wisdom is justified of her children."--Matt. 11:18-19

ill start with this,Ive found no 100% good church today, Im pure christian, I belong to no church, but do attend one, Drinking is ok if it's very little, Noah was a drunk God still used him. as noah understood God's true word.like almost like christ. drinking wine is only a shadow, of whats to come, it dosent do anything in a spirit sense, nothing, only you and Christ then you can become saved, few are saved christ said, the rest go in another way? by FIRE! today most are in errors mixed with pagan ways sad to say, but in the end, God saves everyone... drinking a glass is fine, if it affects your thinking, then your in error.. thats the truth......Im christian I follow no man, no churches ways... in christ i go....

you "Never was taught"? I think you mean something opposite of that. " ...and was taught that drinking was not allowed" is what I think you meant.
Wine represents the bounty of the harvest. ("Ah, 1791, that was a good year," he said as he swirled the claret in its glass.) And who, then, is the Lord of that bounty? Well, God. To Whom you owe this excess. Wine also represents a release of inhibitions, and of expressions of love and anger that come (honestly) to the surface, bringing out issues that may have festered for many a year, or starting something impulsive that was never planned.
Drink only as much as to make you happy, not dizzy. However, be aware that the potency will grip your veins and you will associate this feeling with positive experiences, which may never be repeated in quite the same way (and so addiction starts, for you will want to reclaim that experience.)
In my opinion, in the bible, and in religion, wine represents what it feels like to be in crazy love.

I think underage drinking is really what is discouraged the most, basically just because it's illegal and the Bible says you're supposed to follow the laws of the land or something like that. I think if you are the legal drinking age it's okay if you drink as long as you don't let it come between you and God or if you don't drink so much that you damage your liver because your body is supposed to be a Holy Temple. That's what I've gotten from everything I've heard.

He not only turned water into wine, but he also drank wine at the "Last Supper." He hung out with a lot of fishermen... you think they didn't drink???
Drinking is fine within moderation. Know your limits and certainly do not drink and drive.
Enjoy your life!

When you drink and you no longer have control over youself or your safety thats when it is too much. I think to drink is an adult decision because majority - not all, but most adults know how to handle their alcohol.
There alots of things that christians aren't allowed and that's aimed more towards having a good pure life without sinking into the darkside of this world. There are plenty of ways to have fun without drinking.

Drinking alcohol itself is not a sin.
If you break the law by drinking (under age or other restrictions), then you will be committing a sin.
If you drink to get drunk, then you commit sin.
If you by drinking are a stumbling block to others, then you are being sinful. (a temptation for minors, alcoholics and such)
If you are a slave of alcohol, then you are sinning.
....other than that, I can't think of why it should be sinful
