All religions think they have the "Truth"- that they alone can explain the way things are correctly.

Obviously they can't all be right.

So none really is more right than the others.

No matter what you believe there's a good chance your wrong.

So isn't it good to be openminded- wouldn't you have a better chance of finding some "truth"

And for those that think they already have the "truth" does that make you feel better about things, and if so, why?

I think you're right Abe. Everyone has a desire for truth in some sense, and some more than others. So prepackaged "truth" is ready available so people don't have to find their own.

Actually, just to be obnoxious, I'd like to bring up that there are some people who believe that we get what we think we get. Atheists will just rot in the ground, Christians will go to Heaven/New Earth, Hindus will be reincarnated, etc. I'm not really sure where my kind (agnostics) fall in this, but that's okay. However, if this were true, I think it would imply that something greater exists to control all of it, so it may just be illusion.

Anyway, your approach is valid. Open-mindedness is the only way to go. Experience is our best way of knowing, and to fully understand another perspective, we have to allow ourselves to experience it to some extent.

Why do you jump from they can't all be right to your conclusion that none is really more right than the others. Is the Truth what people think or would it be the Truth even if no one knew it? And then to hypothesize and say that because none really is more right than the others, there's a good chance that all of us are wrong, it doesn't logically follow. But the sand that your argument is built on really shows up when the purpose of your question is revealed, because, you didn't ask this question in order to obtain information, did you?

edit:

It appears that you believe you have the Truth, and that is that there is no absolute truth. Your logic needs work.

Everyone is searching for meaning to their existence, i.e. they want the truth as to why they are here. When that truth is found, one will also discover "God" as well. You wil NOT find God in "religion" nowadays, they are all 'false, contrived' doctrines whose falseness is becoming more patent every day, which is why people are rejecting them en masse.. If one practices truth as one's religion, then you cannot help but come to God and the realization of self. But this is more difficult that you might expect, because falseness is everywhere and is much more acceptable than truth, our whole culture is predicated on lies, in fact. the media is a lie, the government is a lie, most of our social interactions are lies as well. Few people have the moral courage to take up such a quest, but it's definitely worth it, in the end!

I agree, no one has any real proof any region is the right one. There is even a lot of similarities in Christianity and a lot of world religions, like the ancient Egypt religion and Zoroastrian was before Christianity and has a lot of the same beliefs.

I think if we all would realize and stop telling each other my religion is the only one that is right and yours is wrong the world would be a lot more peaceful of a place. There would not be any religious wars anymore.

What is "truth"? It's a relative term if you really look at it. Truth is relative to everything involving it. It can be different to different people. Pagan religions believe that the truth of religion depends on the person and no single religion has the truth for everyone.

you wont have a better chance of finding some truth if your openminded, spiritual truth comes from the holy spirit,he is the spirit of truth, and he will guide you into all truth.when i became a christian i didnt know some things but he revealed them to me,i knew it was truth, you will know truth when you have the holy spirit.having the truth in my life produced fruit such as love, joy ,etc. having the truth makes me feel better about things because i feel wise when i have truth, having wisdom can make your life a whole lot better..and funner.

Great Question!
I can only speak for myself....What my chosen path has led me to do is to reasearch all different spiritual beliefs and religions and look for what Iyanla Vanzant has referred to as
"The Postulates of Truth"
These are strands of truth that seem to run through all religions and beliefs.

Does it make me feel better about things? I dont know about that, but for me, it does give me a certain assurance, allowing me to think that I am on the right path....and i think that as long as i am searching, I am progressing..

I'd rather hang with those that are seeking the truth and avoid like the plague those that have found the truth... ya know. Well, I do have a truth, but it is 'a' truth... God is Love & that's all there is. It is a truth that works for me.

The "Truth" causes joy.
The "Truth" causes sorrow.
These are human qualities.
The same "Truth" lies within all human beings.
In times past there have been great beings that have allowed the "Truth" to escape and radiate from their hearts.
Knowing the "Truth" is the birthright of man.

It is the responsibility of each human being to find this "One Truth" and share it with their fellowman.

We should have strong determination to make this our goal in this lifetime.
