John 3:5-6 No one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

Acts 2:38-39 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off-for all whom the Lord our God will call."

someone told me that sex, according to Catholic beliefs, is only for married couples, and the purpose is only to pro-create. but if pro-creation is not in the couple's agenda it is still a sin to have sex even though they are already married.

can anyone please clarify if this is what really Catholics believe in? I have been pondering over this matter since I heard it, and it's just within this year.

So far noone has come up with a decent definition for the spirit, explained where it lies, or how it can be proven to exist. I'm curious if someone can explain precicely what it does. What is its function?

I got a friend who just told me he was an atheist. This guy is probably the coolest guy I know. He is probably the nicest guy I know too. He even once got hit by a car so he could save a dog that was standing in the street. Luckily he did not get hurt. He has also never made fun of anyone who does not share the same beliefs as him. However, I still find myself thinking less of him now that I know he is not a Christian like I originally thought. Why is it that I think more highly of bad Christians than I do of good atheists?????

No religious belief system or spiritual philosophy is True. The Truth (God) is far too simple for mind to conceptualize and too obvious to be found by looking. No religion is the Truth but all belief systems are the search for Truth; stepping stones to a Realization that has nothing at all to do with mind and it's concepts. Their proper function is the exploration of boundaries, and the disolving of those boundaries in a sweet surrender to your own Presence. The seeker is the sought and the path folds back upon itself to return to the beginning; the innocence of Being.

That which peers through your eyes is Existence itself. That which is the silent, undisturbed witness of life is what You are; the creator of universes, constantly spinning galaxies and forming time and space in it's wake; a wind struck sea to mark your fury, and your wonder; glittering specks of light in a starry, starry night. Nothing in the universe could be other than your own sacred Self.

I refer to centuries and generations ago.

And what do you follow? What do you suppose they would think of you?

For the last 500 years, my family has lived in Punjab and belonged to the Sikh faith - before that they were Hindus of the same area. My parents moved to the states before I was born.

"Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15)"?...
Or should we "not go around preaching", as SOME would have us to do?

Does anyone have any church bloopers that you would like to share? I have a few which I will list below...

-- Our next song is "Angels We Have Heard Get High."

-- Don't let worry kill you - let the church help.

-- Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our church
and community.

-- Thursday night potluck supper - Prayer and Medication to
follow.

-- The senior choir invites any member of the congregation
who enjoys sinning to join them.

-- This afternoon there will be a meeting in the South and North
ends of the church. Children will be baptized at both ends.

As I made a feeble attempt to prove that Atheists and Christians can agree one some things, which I made a mistake on the matter due to punctuation errors, not only was I informed that I was wrong, but I was attacked because I was wrong about it. Being called narrow(minded??), self-centered, a coward, anti-women, and other things...

So why should I expect anything other than hatred from non-believers, just because of a simple mistake?

Now, I know I shouldn't generalize, but I guess non-believers say things like "all christians damn you to hell if you don't believe in jesus" is how things like this from non-believers, and how some christians say "atheists are arrogant and rude" is because they have experiences like this...hate filled responses

Wouldn't someone who was trying to get their point accross, without being full of hate, simply say "sorry, re-read my statement I think you have it wrong"? Because I know I would...but apparently those who are truely closed minded can't.

Does the bible or the Cu’ran say anything at all about god's desire for man to develop science or research?

Here's a sample of what I'm asking about... (an excerpt of a Y/A user's answer.) Where do these notions come from?
------------------------
Religions comes from God, the answer comes from God. God created everything in this world, thus he created the answers.

We have brain and ability to think. God choose certain people to have more intelligents to find, research and to produce what we call science. Without God's gifted to the persons, none will know anything at all. Everything is God's will.

Religions is a way God teach human. its where the history, presents and future was stated and thats where humans originate the research of this world. They searching things that been claimed in holy books. They trying to find proves of what been said in holy books. thats where the exploration started.

God teach us through religion.

...as a result of your prayers being answered...

Doesnt that mean that your faith is a trivial thing? That moves depending on the things you receive on earth?

Wont it shake when your prayers arent answered anymore

I have repeatedly read questions on here asking Atheists where they get their morality if not from God. I've read many non-Atheists accuse Atheists of using their lack of belief to get away with "immoral" or sinful behavior. But based on several answers from this question (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ak0Ch2tegn2jYe1eogb.Akc8.Bd.?qid=20070708172947AAlg00R) and previous questions, doesn't this mean that Christians can do whatever they want in life as well?

Now, obviously, some people have answered that what we do in life DOES matter, so I'm also asking, what's the "true" Christian stance here? Does immoral or sinful behavior matter in life or not?

And if it doesn't:

Why pick on homosexuals, Atheists, Agnostics, etc.? Why say they are going to hell or that they are sinners? Why hold nonbelievers to a standard if not believers as well?

I recently read a quote from the Gospel of John that disturbed me. It was John 14:28, where Jesus says "the Father is greater than I."

Doesn't this mean Jesus is saying he is less than God and not equal to him?
