from the beginning christians (catholics are the original ones for you idiots who suggest otherwise) have studied the sciences and philosophers. they have studied eerything and have priests and religious(nuns and brothers) with doctorates in all the various disciplines so that coupled with faith, the church can use reason to discern what new discoveries jive with faith and morals as taught from the beginning of the christian mission.

atheist's ,like fundamentalist christians , can be very short sighted about the nature of human reasoning as essential in the search for Truth, a universal quest, regardless of ones creed. many suggest they base judgements about science solely on faith teachings. nothing is further from the truth, in the past the scientific teachings we now call universally known truths that seem almost common sensical, were in their early stages of discovery. As such, based on reason many were shot down by the church. But the church has always been hesitant about pronouncing dogma's precisely because the specifics of science are so difficult for our human minds to nail down. So they openly object to some things or just dissent from others, this challenges real scientists to break from ideologically based assumptions and make sure that their theories can be sustained by actual facts.

I'm not sure any other religion goes to such lengths to analyze every aspect of humanity as the catholic and orthodox churches do ans have done.

by the way , what the heck is prono?

This is among the foremost schisms among a few Protestant fundementalists and the Roman Catholics. The Catholic Church does no longer claim that each and every phrase of the bible is to be taken actually. Catholics (adding the popes) had been closely worried within the pursuit of God's truths as discovered through technological know-how. Examples are Nicholas Copernicus (1473-1543) Canon (priest) of the Catholic Church and astronomer. Galileo Galilei (1564 – 1642) used to be an Italian physicist, mathematician, astronomer, and thinker and even though his theories weren't imediately approved through the Church, he used to be finally vindicated (even though his idea used to be incomplete and regularly nonetheless should not be approved!). Rene Descartes (1596-1650) used to be a religious Catholic and thinker, mathematician and scientist. Gregor Mendel (1822-1884) the Augustine Monk is credited with laying the mathematical base for genetics. Georges Lemaitre (1894-1966) the Priest and Cosmologist who is Big Bang idea is essentially the most approved mannequin thus far. Erwin Schrödinger (1887 – 1961) used to be an Austrian - Irish physicist who accomplished popularity for his contributions to quantum mechanics, notably the Schrödinger equation, for which he obtained the Nobel Prize in 1933. In 1935. He used to be a training Catholic. And there are lots of extra examples at the hyperlinks under of scientists who had been training in each Catholicism and different Christian religions. I consider this can be a up to date phenomena that radicalized (in opposition to technological know-how) fundamentalist evangelical preachers have refrained from technological know-how with a purpose to prey at the least knowledgeable and educable of society. My youngest daughter graduated from a Jesuit school, Loyola in New Orleans with honors in historical past and theology and she or he is an Atheist so...

To me, this makes no sense. An observatory is used for looking at planets and stars and any other celestial body. The existence of an observatory only proves they look at the sky.

Also, many Christians are not opposed to science. Some creationists use "science" to back up their claims. Other Christians can be completely reasonable scientists without taking Genesis literally.

If your going to attack atheists, at least TRY to be logical.

Christians aren't all opposed to science, in fact the Catholic church officially recognises evolution as a valid theory and in no direct conflict with Christian beliefs.

It's only really Bible literalists, fundimentalists basically, that support the idea that science is wrong and a 2000+ year old book is right on all matters.

does the vatican have its own evolutionary biology laboratory? it shows that the vatican is at most about a hundred years behind the times, rather than some fundamentalists who are three or four hundred years behind. still they can be relied upon to drag their heels on things that are not as clear-cut as the motion of the earth around the sun.

Probably because they like to look at the planets and stars. I wish I had my own observatory - that would be really cool :)

To keep an eye on their many enemies.

Actually I am joking of course. Being educated in a Catholic School by the various Sisters Mary of St Joseph's Church I can tell you that the Catholic Church is very interested in promoting education and scientific knowledge.

Because Christianity is based on SUN worship disguised as SON worship, this is the reason why they have the big egyptian obelisk in the Vatican Courtyard... This is why Christians say AMEN at the end of prayers in honor of AMEN RA the egyptian SUN GOD.

Because Astronomy is not what we're talking about. We're talking about things like evolution and geology (which can prove Earth is older than fundamentalists believe it is).
