As I made a feeble attempt to prove that Atheists and Christians can agree one some things, which I made a mistake on the matter due to punctuation errors, not only was I informed that I was wrong, but I was attacked because I was wrong about it. Being called narrow(minded??), self-centered, a coward, anti-women, and other things...

So why should I expect anything other than hatred from non-believers, just because of a simple mistake?

Now, I know I shouldn't generalize, but I guess non-believers say things like "all christians damn you to hell if you don't believe in jesus" is how things like this from non-believers, and how some christians say "atheists are arrogant and rude" is because they have experiences like this...hate filled responses

Wouldn't someone who was trying to get their point accross, without being full of hate, simply say "sorry, re-read my statement I think you have it wrong"? Because I know I would...but apparently those who are truely closed minded can't.

Thanks Brian F...but sadly, I have already re-read it lol!

Anyway to those who said they can get along(for various reasons) I know that many can get along on subjects, but the point I was trying to get along is because of just a simple mistake of misunderstanding, a believer was attacked because of a non-believer.

I mean, since non-believers(more often than not) claim that religious people are stupider than them, they would understand and be more sympathetic.

And no, I am not attacking atheists by the way, I was just showing that when I tried to be nice, I was met with hatred...so why should I continue to be nice to non-believers when I don't get niceness(is that even a word?) back?

Giovanni Gezus, no I haven't been to one( I don't think there is even one near here...rural WV doesn't have much) And (lol!) isn't that the same as an abortion center? I know I wouldn't personally kill a kitten, so I wouldn't be able to kill a baby either...that's how I look at it, a baby human is just like a baby animal. Defenseless.

2007-07-08 15:02:54 · update #4

Giovanni Gezus, My parent's are not religious...I haven't heard that. I actually went to church with my aunt when I was little(only went because I got to color and sing loudly) but it wasn't until I was 16 when I started searching...

True, you may be correct, because I don't htink any churches are real, but for some reason I feel God is real and so is Jesus....

but hey, only more exploration will show me the answer right?

Giovanni Gezus, WOW!! I didn't know those stats....that's a lot. But, yeah, I know what you mean because my cousin just lost her baby and another one is in bed rest because they're afraid she'll lose hers too...

But see, those people who lose the baby, can adopt the ones not wanted...I guess it's just because I'm so young(so untouched by the world) that I see things too simply, too much black/white...not gray.

Is it just me, or weird, that my question is like a chat room between us? I think they should make an R&S chat room...that would be cool.

Sometimes it's good to just agree to disagree.

I have an Atheist friend whom I work with that I get along very well with. Yes we'll debate from time to time but we never let it get in between us.

Brain, I read your response that started it all. Have you ever been to your local Humane Society? They kill baby kittens all day long because nobody wants them. You're logic is flawed. But you're only 18, so I don't blame you for that. When I was 18 I didn't understand a lot about the real world either.

You believe in God not because there is any evidence that God exists or even because believing in God makes sense. You believe in God simply because you have been told that God is real from the day you were born. Over and over and over. So you accept it without question.

You believe abortion is wrong not because you've carefully examined the issue from all sides, but because you've been told that God says abortion is wrong.

edit: I've never killed a baby or a kitten and could never bring myself to do either. But that is not the heart of the abortion issue. The question is whether I have the right to force someone else to raise a kitten they do not want.

In a perfect world, abortion would not exist. But this is reality. If God really cared about unborn babies he would do something about the 2,000 babies that are born dead every day. These are babies whose mother's WANT them, yet they die before term. And what of the 150,000 miscarriages that happen every day worldwide? When you examine the numbers, it becomes impossible to believe in an all-loving compassionate God who cares for human life more than anything else.

Also consider, when wieghing the abortion issue, that those who scream loudest against abortion are also against birth control and sex education. Why? Because they are really against sex more than anything else. They've been told that God thinks sex is wrong too.

Dude, i've some similar experiences here on R&S

Don't give up. Keep your good humor, don't mind some ignorant missinformed respones, focus on the good ones, the ones that show how the people think. Its hard, it dosent matter how clear you're making your point and triyng not to offend anyone just to get opinions on the subject. There's always going to be less inteligent person who will awnser something awfully rudo without even readig the details of your question.

Atheist and Christians can get along just fine (maybe not here on R&S, but i havent completly lost hope yet).
Try hard to explain to them clearly your opinion, show them that you are not an horrible completly irrational fundamentalist, that youre just a christian guy and that your poinst, whatever they may be, have a rational basis (oh, sometimes you can give the most rational reasonable argument in the world and still be tagged as unrational and unreasonable or worst, its life), show them that your trying to get awnsers not just anoy them.

Its pretty hard to do it, and of course, as a Chrsitian (you are one right?), remember always to turn the other cheek (again, vry hard to accomplish)

Take it easy and have fun, thats what i do

We do work together well on raids. This has been proven. Especially, "whatever" raids. You should join us sometime. It is easier to get one's attention and respect,if there is some sort of common ground between two opposing parties. I am not saying to soft pedal the gospel or hop in bed with Atheistic thought,in comprimise...just that we need to validate each other on the human level,first...maybe we can end some of the hateful bashing on this forum.

Sorry about your bad experience dude but religion is the touchiest subject in the world. How can you expect calmness and peaceful conversation when you know that there are so many jerks in the world and so many like to instigate fights?

You are truly ugly and intellectually dishonest by this question of yours... Does your misrepresentation know no bounds? Should you need explanations, I'll gladly give them, but your statements indicate you don't want truth at all. Shame on you. Your errant accusations here relate to:

they love to hate and then they say we are the haters. They are related to the Father of all lies so do not expect anything different from them. Not all though just some. They are extremely active and riled up tonight though.

Sorry reread your statement you have it wrong.

That response comes from a viewpoint. You read a genuine response and you can't handle it and so you think it is an attack. So, if you posted something and it was read incorrectly, how can you blame people for their reaction?

Actually, they can get along quite well. The only difference is one has less god then the other.

I think atheists and believers have much in common... All, in fact, except believing in gods...

Seems such a minor point...
