Well, Gnostic, if people belong to a "religion" in order to promote "world Peace" then perhaps that would be an acceptable way to go. BUT folks don't FOLLOW their Religion for that purpose. We ALL follow our own Religions because our ways are what works for US. Our concepts of "God" (deity) tend to be unique for EACH individual. Accordingly, that uniqueness of perception leads us to adhere to our OWN ideas and concepts of HOW to worship our unique concepts of Deity. Christians SHARE their views and perceptions of God, therefore they Worship God in their unique way. It's RIGHT, for them. Muslims share their perceptions of God and worship God accordingly, Hindus, shar THEIR perceptions og God and worship accordingly. Wiccans have THEIR concepts of Deity and ALSO worship accordingly.
As LONG as we HAVE those unique relationships with Deity, there will be different WAYS of worshipping that concept. It ALL boils down to "What IS the purpose of Religion?". If it's to serve as a "social club" for humans, then everyone joining the SAME social club is the way to go. But if Religion is to serve as a "way of Worship" then we EACH must follow our OWN paths, because THAT'S what works for us as individuals.

borrein, This might sound a little tough, so brace yourself. What the Hell did you go to Christianity for? If you are a Christian because you thought that people there would treat you a certain way, you are coming for the wrong reason. A Christian is a Christian because He believes in the Resurrection, not some social order within the Church on Sundays. So you are right to question whether you should stay in it or not. You obviously didn't become a Christian because you believed that God was more important to you than anything else in your life. And that Jesus is Lord. By saying that you are sdmitting that He is King and you are His subject. I guess all that meant nothing to you, because apparently what is most important to you are the Fundamentalist Christians who don't understand the Gospel message in the first place. So don't waste your time unless you do some deciding on why you came, and that you came for the right reasons. And don't you let anyone tell you that you can't be a Christian because your Gay.

Religion will likely come to an end when there is no longer a perceived need to seek the Truth outside the self. Until then, religions will keep preaching 'the Truth is within' until folks understand they're not really kidding about that.
As far as the function of religion, it is a stepping stone in the search for Truth, and all belief systems are appropriate for a given level of awareness and are not to be considered problematic.
It can be noticed that, since ego is illusion, Truth is very dangerous to ego, and so the more popular a belief system, the less likely it does a very good job of pointing at the Truth. Christianity, in particular, offers ego the security of eternal life, forgiveness, salvation, unconditional love of an all powerful being and usually an endowment of 'specialness'. It's these ego benefits that explains it's popularity rather than it's ability to point to Truth.
To be fair, no belief system denies one the potential to know Truth.

I think religion will never end
because i don't think all human can never united
it's so simple because everyone had their ego
everyone had their own ambition
even if everyone has converted to Christianity because of basic human nature of singularity they'll create their own sect of Christianity and it will trigger the development of new religion and so on
So no, i don't think Christianity will end all religion
There are many ways to salvation so choose your own path be it in Christianity, Islam, Budha, whatsoever
as long it will guide you to the right path
To have a religion is never a mark holiness
But to do the religion teaching will guide you to one
And God is not only just "literal" in many religion
faith can not be teached, or told
faith is something you experienced by yourself
And alway remember it's not the religion teaching that has fault
it always the human who interpreted the teaching to blame
no religion teaches bad thing
just the human who bent the teaching

And those "last days" have been imminent through several historic periods and still no Second Coming.
Christianity has had a good run, due to it's flexibility and ability to compromise("OK, so the Saturnalia will become Jesus birthday and we can still give presents..."). I wonder if Fundamentalism is the sign of a religion in its death throes?
Religion(or spirituality) and Science are incomplete by themselves...I think there's always a healthy tension between ritual and innovation as well as a moral quest.

I believe religion as we know it will be ancient history before too long, (and not before time) ...
As we enter *The Shift* in 2012, which is not the end of the world, but the beginning of a new age...
Our planet is undergoing a change and we humans are evolving again, this time spiritually...
The Crystal / Indigo Children have been born world-wide since 1984, which incidentally is the year, The Shift began..
They have a huge part to play in the future of mankind, as the religious idiots globally have done a good job of killing our planet (our mother)...
With their lust for power, their wars, their greed has all contributed to the killing of our planet and countless innocent helpless species of both flora & fauna..
Religion as we know it is very dangerous and soon we will all be free of its poisonous grasp and the hypocrites who are responsible for the brainwashing of so many...
Some say we will enter the 4th dimension, some say the 5th, but no matter, we are evolving and our evolution has no place for false religions....
It will not happen overnight, but it will eventually reach everyone on the planet from Atheist to the most devout of religious people....
Hang on to your corn-cob pipes kiddies as this is here, and it is almost now...
Blessed Be... )O(

IF that was all it'd take I'm sure plenty of us here'd be prepared to fake it for the great good.
Unfortuantely it's likely that's not what'll happen. Look at the distrust even within the X-ian sects. Best example is how some of the more Fundy sects constantly denouncing Catholism.
There will always be conflict in & out of the overall X-ian faith.

Spiritually speaking, at the end time period approx in the year 3000 the whole world will begin to be demonized until the 2nd coming of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST in the year 3500. Revelation 18: 2 states this truth saying Fallen, fallen is babylon the great (global city), she has become a home of demons and a visitations of evil spirits. And THE LORD JESUS CHRIST even prophesied saying Will I find faith when I will come again? But as of today, our faith and belief in THE LORD GOD -THE LORD JESUS CHRIST was shown to us by the Prophets of old or even today who saw spiritual visions. It is because in human sense, they have a third eye so to speak. This 3rd eye is actually their sense of wonder. And they see wonderful creations all around them like the light, the planets, the sun and the universe. And the micro world say men living in the billionth- billionth- billionth of a second, yet we do not perceive this time occurring:before our very eyes or a billion, billlion of years which we dont have the opportunity of experience and perceive them as well. And these are only examples of the servants of GOD seeing them with their third eye or their sense of wonder. Thus, at this point in man's history, we have a book of wonder called the Bible and the christianity that it espouses. Additionally, Christianity is a belief of life beyond the grave; a life even unto eternity or eternal life. And THE LORD JESUS CHRIST is the WORD OF GOD about these divine plan for mankind. The LORD JESUS CHRIST is the MESSIAH who have redeemed mankind from eternal death or damnation. HE is mankind's savior. For witnesses other than Christians, the Prophet Mohammad in a vision was brought by Archangel Gabriel to heaven and saw THE LORD JESUS CHRIST standing in the right hand of GOD; while Mohammad remained with the audience in a heavenly assembly among the Prophets. St John the baptist was also a witness of THE LORD JESUS CHRIST when he declared HIM as THE LAMB OF GOD who takes away the sins of mankind. And another witness is the Prophet Isaiah 9:6 that states that the one who will be born of a virgin woman will be called MIGHTY GOD, WONDERFUL, COUNSELOR (HOLY SPIRIT), EVERLASTING FATHER and PRINCE OF PEACE. These are one of the many reasons that one should believe the Bible and Christianity as well. THANKS GOD; FEAR GOD; PRAISE GOD; GLORIFY GOD; HONOR GOD; LOVE GOD AND WORSHIP GOD.

Everyone is not going to convert to Christianity. And the set of beliefs religion is rooted in is not about to change. Too many wars have been fought in the name of religion; too many people have been killed. Even if you kill off all the extremists, I still don't see any hope of religion just being a harmless celebratory institution

If everyone stopped believing in God then Science would prosper. If science prospers then we are going to reach the conclusion that without god creation couldn't exist and then we will be back at the beginning. religion will always exist. *the Truth* will never really be known be everyone until God does come or until we become extinct which I see happening soon the way we are going...
