They never really went away. They established the economic system that we have today. I hope this helps. Best Regards, M.G.S.

I am a Sir Knight of the Commandry of the Knights Templar and the Templars never went away, just into hiding. This was after the great capture of Jacques de Molay and many Templars on April 13, 1307 (a Friday) by King Philip IV of France and Pope Clement V.

Catholics have been forbidden by the Vatican from joining Freemasons since 1738, but that doesn't mean that Catholics don't want to engage in fraternal fun, so in 1882 Father Michael McGivney, a priest in New Haven, Connecticut started the Knights of Columbus. This was to try and keep the Catholics from wanting to join the Knights Templar. What is amusing is that many Historians believe that Christopher Columbus, which the Knights of Columbus are based on, was indeed a Knights Templar, and help in transporting the missing Templar wealth out of its hiding place to a new one.

As for Catholics not being Masons, that is not true because our lodge has several who are. We do not care that they are Catholic, and they are welcome in our Lodges, if their church has a problem with it then it is between them and the church.

What would be the point?

There are no more pilgramages, hence no pilgrims needing protection or banking (and banks would do it better anyway).

Everything that the Templars did in society is being done (and done better) by other people now.

The Catholic Church versions of the Knights Templar's are still with the Catholic Church... But there is a different branch of Knights Templar's That belong to all Masonic Groups that will never rejoin the Catholic Church........................ And I do mean never............................................................ You also have to remember that the Knights Templar's that were staunch members of the Church were betrayed and butchered by the Catholic Church and a lot of their wealth and lands were stolen by the Catholic Church and they would never trust the Church again.......................................................
